Question on All Balls Stem Bearing Conversion - CB500/4
« on: October 23, 2007, 10:46:11 am »
I'm getting ready to refinish my stem and trees and I plan to do the All Balls Tapered Bearing Conversion. Question is, do I need to remove the bearing race on the lower stem? I've already removed the races from the frame (and I save them), but I'm clueless on the stem race.

If it does need to come off, is there a special trick?

Thanks guys.

Yes the lower stem race must be removed, and it's a bit(h to get off.
I got a screw driver under mine and worked it till eventually it came off.

Good luck

heres a trick i learned from a machinist. if you have a welder, put a short weld onto the race, it will heat up very quickly and pop right off with no damage to the stem.
