Cast Mag wheels are fragile to begin with. Old cast Mag wheels are an accident waiting to happen. I remember EPM but that's about it. They would work well on a bike that sits in your livingroom.  ;) New, forged Mag wheels are better ( a LOT better) but still fragile IMO. The new forged aluminum rims are fairly tough.

I have an old set of KimTab (I think that its name) snow flake wheels that I believe are magnesium.  They are very light weight but it sounds like they should remain sitting in the basement.  Anyone know anything about them?

Here's a pic of a bike with a set on it...

If they are mag, anywhere there is paint missing they should turn BLACK...ie any chips or the part where the tire covers it..

Just FWIW (and since you said please  :D ), a bit of background on EPM: EPM, Elaborazioni Preparazioni Magni was founded by Arturo Magni (of MV Agusta fame) and his sons Carlo and Giovanni. They produced special parts for MVs, namely chain drive conversion kits for the MV Agustas. Later Arturo and Giovanni were making frame kits and bikes under the name Magni, while Carlo concentrated on building wheels. The company was located at 21017 Samarate, 331 Via Leonardo da Vinci. Samarate is just north-west of Milan.
