CB750 motor in a cb550 frame?
« on: October 26, 2007, 06:53:09 am »
Will a CB750 motor fit in a CB550 frame? What about the cylinders and pistons? Will the 750 parts bolt onto the 550 motor? Basically, I have a CB550 that runs okay, but I also have a 750 motor sitting on my garage floor, and if I can soup up the 550 using parts from the 750, that'd be great.

Charles.

shot answer ---> No

Longer answer ---> no to everything you asked about.

As far as I know nothing from the cb750 motor is a direct bolt on to a cb500/550 motor. I have heard of  guys running cb750 pistons in cb550s but I think that takes a lot of work.

I have a custom amen frame for a 550 and at one point I tried to fit a 750 motor in it, and there is way more room in there than a stocker. It would have required all new motor plates, mounts, and a butt load of time. Plus I would have had to great creative with the exhaust since the down tubes ran right in front of the exhaust port.
