bench sync cargs on 76 cb 750
« on: October 26, 2007, 10:11:40 PM »
ive rebuilt the carbs on one of my 750's and at the moment i cant afford a set og guages so i need some info on bench syncing the carbs  i also have a 71 cb 5oo i rescued from a barn a few weeks ago that i'm eventually going to put together for my wife as an aniversary gift before next june  and the tips will come in handy even though they are two different styles of carbs the 500 is more like the carbs on my 78 cb 750  so hopefully the info will work on all models
      thanks

"bench syncing" the carbs is used to get it close enough to start the bike for further tuning.  Eventually you'll need to buy or borrow a set of gauges to do it right.  Even the slightest adjustments to an already synched set of carbs can change the way it runs.  To answer your question, you'll need something like some pieces of 14 or 12ga solid wire that you will be using to set the gap at the bottom of the slides and get them as uniformally set as possible.  14 or 12 gauge wire should be stripped of insulation before you use it, and you place a piece of it in each carb under the slides and adjust the nut on the top of each carb until they all match, then lock down the jam nut.  Be careful you don't twist anything when you loosen or tighten the nuts.

I used a 1/8th inch drill bit to bench sync my carbs.
