K&N air filters

Is anyone running the K&N RC-0844 pods on their CB550?

http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RC-0844

I am just wondering what a good starting point for jetting the carbs is. I know with "standard" pods (the longer, tapered ones) 115-120 mains are a good baseline, but I was thinking with the K&Ns being smaller (more restrictive) maybe I should go a bit smaller.

Right now I have 100s in the carbs. It's a 76 CB550F.

I never would have looked twice at the K&Ns since they are pricey, but I found a new set of them on clearance for half price. They are a lot shorter and fit better than the longer pods I've seen, plus you can use your choke lever.

Sorry, I don't have a 550, but those that do may need to know what pipes you are running?
 4-2 4-1 etc.

Have you done a search for "550 pods" yet?  I just did and there are a TON of threads on carb set up for 550s.  Should be a great starting place.

Yeah, I have read through a lot of the "pods" threads, and it seems the general consensus is 110-120 mains with the pods. Of course, a lot depends on the exhaust, altitude, temperature, and all that good stuff.

Going from the pictures I have seen in those threads most are running the longer, tapered pods, and not the stubby K&Ns. I was more curious to see if anyone is running those K&Ns specifically, and what the flow is like (and corresponding jetting) for them specifically.

Basically I want to order ONE set of jets to start off, and don't know if I should go with 110s or 115s or 120s.

I'm running a 4-into-1 with the stock pipes, and some unknown exhaust.

But I see your point.....maybe pods are pods, and even if someone was running the K&Ns specifically, the general pods jet size is as close enough starting point as I am going to get.
