WHEELS for the CB650
« on: November 14, 2007, 01:10:27 PM »
I noticed that there was a wheel discussion down the line, just to find myself in the same predicament.
I have a CGB650F 1979 that I am fixing up as a cafe racer - but I cannot handle the mag wheels, dont lik em, dont want em. So I am lurking around trying to figure out which other CB wheels will work. I understand that I will more than likely have to replace the entire wheel, so I am prepared for the worst.
Thanks in advance for your guys help. :)

Don't care for the mag look either.
When I was considering buying a Sportster I'd wanted to order the spoked wheel option vs the cast aluminum wagon wheels. The dealer and others talked me out of it because they said that the Harley spoked wheels were prone to problems and only the Japanese spoked wheels worked and kept their true. Go figure ?!
Thats actually what lead me to purchase my Honda CB instead !

Honda used the same wheels for all their bikes 450 and up so there are alot of them out there. I'm looking for another set myself for my 550F.
My wheels are 18" Rear and 19" Front. I presume based upon your wheel size and outer diameter with the tire mounted you should be able to compare whether they'd work for you. Not to mention the swingarm and fork clearances of the hubs.
Ebay has alot of the old wheels in varying degrees of condition and price of course but something like that you could probably locate a decent set locally at your local bike salvage yard as well ....

the 80-82 standard 650's had spoke wheels and will fit without modification.
19  front and 17 rear.
might be interested in the rear if you get a replacement

DammitDan what u talking about?    Is that a dual piston caliper/disk on your bike?  Is the fork lower still from your 80?   I dont dislike the comstars but my fav mags are the yami swirl wheels from the early 80's.

Yeah Terry they're the factory gold powdercoat tubeless rims off an '81 XS850.

The rotors were trash (scored and warped) but it's dual front caliper and single rear caliper setup with shaft drive.

If you want them let me know, they're yours for the price of shipping or you can pick them up if you're close to Clarksville, TN.  I've never been a fan of gold rims, they're too "bling bling" for my taste  ;D

Dammit Dan what about the caliper on your 650?   What is it from?
Forgot about the midnite special yamis.    Didnt like the "bling" either.
For now i'll have to pass on them.

I can't remember if the caliper on my 650 was dual or single piston...  I think it was dual piston.

It was the stock caliper off the '82 CB650 STD forks.  It just has a '79 comstar mag with an '82 rotor bolted onto it.

Yes they are 2 piston.    They started changing over in 82.  Always wondered if they would bolt on to the other 650's.    Dammit Dan we hijacked the thread!!!   Sorry guys.

No, I mean for spoked wheels, not mine, I was just wondering if that was a good deal
#$%*, I wish someone offered me that for these star wheels. They literally have to be the most ugly wheel that was ever made...

Actually I like them all, cept the V-rod solids, bad idea. I have a set of rims from a 75 F bike, spokes are ugly but they worked fine till I pulled them for some Cstars. I have the stuff to switch the swing arm etc., but dont think it is on the list right now.
Anybody know if a Cstar rear drum fits up with the k bike set up?
175$ for spoked wheels? I hope they are nice with no issues.
