When I built the "side" for the front of the trailer I just bolted on two 2 x 4's the long way to make a slot for the front wheel. Run it in, tie it tight, strap the bike to the I bolts on the sides, and away I go.

This one hauls ass.....

This one hauls ass($3+ per gallon and I still love big blocks), and everything else.

It came with a dirt cheap price tag, and a sad story about a cracked block. It got 2 freeze plugs and a jump start and still going.

 ;D

Happy trails.

Circle Industries made regular pull type tie-downs as did Ancra in the 70,s

A lot of them today are cheap copies that may not hold as well

I would never haul a bike on a centrestand on a steel surface, they ride just fine on the tires and wont really move around (except maybe on a rough dirt road)

Did I ever mention I hate them ratchet tie-downs??? Man do I hate them $^&^%$%&&^%&%^&*(((**(ing things... >:(

I borrow my neighbor's Dodge mini van.
He's the last guy on my "mature" street that still has one.
I built the electric 3-wheeler to a spec. that would fit
in that particular van.
I built a ramp that I put on the roof when hauling.

What is wrong with ratchet tie downs? I use them and love em. Regular tie downs are too iffy. I have had them slip many times and they were not walmart cheapos either.

I will not trailer a bike without em. They work great and are more secure than regular tie downs or rope and are just as easy to release.

Any difficulty is either operator error or a bad design choice buy the operator.

I use my daily driven 06 Ford F-150 pickemuptruck to haul bikes around (can get two in the bed with ease) --->
And I have to agree with the ratchet tie down statement. Ratcheting tie dows are the best for strapping something down (car-motorcycle-etc). MUCH better than those corny pull ones they always sell at motorcycle shops. If someone has had failure with a ratchet deal, it is usually a "user error" problem....

those pull through type straps also rely on you tying the remaining strap to hold its tension.

I tow a 5x7 trailer behind my Toyota Matrix.  It cost me $250 to buy the trailer frame from Tractor Supply Co. and another $60 for the wood.

It tracks just fine and works great behind my little 1.8L 4 banger  ;D

Did I mention I use all 3 strap types?  (evident in the picture  ;D  ;D  ;D )

Hey Dan, Only thing that matters, is that the person (who owns whatever is) is confident that the item is secure. I usually use ratchet type tiedowns pulled down enough to be sure things stay put. BTW, that is a pretty nice trailer you have there. ;)

Seaweb.. is that ,

Thompson river?,
or 3rd choice
along the Similkameen??
or 2nd choice,
Spences bridge to Merrit??

There would be nothing wrong weith ratchets if they didnt make pull type that work perfectly..

But the there is that extra kilometer of strap and the 3 minutes it takes to ratchet them up.. ahh screw it, still hate them #$#$#$ing things.. :o

My Circle Ind ones are at least 25 yrs old, never slip.never ever.
But then I dont buy cheapos either. I find if I load myself, I pull one side 1/2 way, next side a bit more, them pull a bit more on the 1st side so it is level, give the bars a shake.. make sure its tight..40 seconds, 1 person on a pickup.. never moves.. people say is that all you are going to do.. I say yeah, does not need any more.. I used to load 2 or 3 bikes in a pickup with 2 tiedowns and 2 short pcs of rope, long as front wheel cant move sideways, they wont move..

Dammitdan, build a solid mounted front wheel chock, you can get by with 2 straps.. throw on an extra for safety, forget abut the back unless you are racing Baja.... The reason you need so many you dont have a firm place to pull up against..

754,

Since I'm so friggin poor I like to take every precaution  ;D

I'd rather spend the extra 5-10 minutes strapping her down super-securely than have her fall off on the highway, trashing the bike (and possibly costing me thousands more $$$ when someone hits it  :()

I'm still working on a secure wheel chock...  And now since I have 2 bikes I'm gonna have to set it up with 2 chocks (but keep the one in the center when I just need to haul one bike, of course)

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the compliment!  :D

Good deal Mike.  That's almost old enough to be hip.  Looks to be in good shape too.  80k over almost 30 years is pretty low mileage.  Good find.

My H100 did the 40 or so miles back to mine in the back of this:

2.5 Litre 5 cylinder diesel, it had 260k miles on the clock when I sold it 8)

My CB550 wouldn't fit in the back ???

So it did the 250 odd motorway miles to it's new home on the roof ;D

Without doubt the best car I've ever owned, it almost broke my heart to part with it when I moved out here :(

I bought it from a farmer, he lifted it up onto the roof with one of the attachments on the back of his tractor ;D

Getting it down was where the fun really began :o

That took equal measures of brute force, ignorance, and pure dumb luck ::)

It didn't travel upright by the way, we lay it on it's side on a sheet of 1/2" ply, then strapped it down with half a dozen ratchet straps.

And the coolest think about that old car, it did that whole 500 mile round trip in one day, on one tank of diesel ;D

Prior to Chris  joining the team, I had mates that would take me and the bikes to wherever we were racing.

I bought a 2 bike trailer for getting my VFR or Benly and Chrise's CR750 to meets.

Chris was never happy with the bike on the trailer, and deceided to get a van.

Eventually Chris will move on so I kept the trailer and I have a small Ford Fiesta with a big 1.8 deisel motor that will pull a house down.
It's milage is just over 100,000 miles.

You can see the van in this thread, it is an ex Post Office LDV van, it's taken us all over the country for 5 years with never a hint of bother.
