center stand with 4 into 1 exaust
« on: July 24, 2005, 09:10:36 AM »
am running a mac 4 into 1 exaust on my76 550k.with the center stand onthe bike in the up position seems to rub the chain, how do i prevent this? like the stand for ease of working on the bike. the system came with an "L" shaped braket with a oblong hole on one side, it's not used on the exaust. any info?

The stock exhaust has a rubber bumper on it for up storage of the center stand.  This kept the stand out of the chain.  I imagine the L bracket you refer to mounts on the foot peg bolt and extends down to block the stand from interfering with chain.

When I had 4 into 2's mounted on my 74 CB550 a while back, I had to make an L bracket to stop the center stand.

I've also seen a small piece of aluminum bar stock attached to the left-hand pillion footpeg mount to keep the stand down far enough to prevent contact. Simple and effective.

i switched to a 4-1 system and had to install an "L" shaped stop to protect my chain.

i think you will find that the oblong hole is for the rubber bumper off your old exhaust, you push the little knob bit through it and it should stay there, and as the other boys said, i think you will find that the L bracket when a rubber bumper is fitted, will stop the stand hitting the chain... good luck..peace

thanx for all the info, had the braket on the left passenger footpeg. it hangs there going to nowhere, looks ugly. the oblong hole is for the bolt, have the "L" facing in works fine.

hmm.  i too have a K with a 4-1, and i thought the center stand doubled as an "adjust the chain" warning device.  ;)

there are rubber bumpers where the stand meets the frame.  i don't have to keep the chain overly tight, but it's not too tolerant of slack, either.

pics would be informative.  does it hit your chain even at proper tension?

i guess rider weight and shock pre-load both figure into the equation, too?  you could add a donut to your bracket or remove some from your diet?  i dunno....  :)
