Not everyone has the time nor money to flat out tune their rig straight out of the box...

nor do some owners want to tune them the same as others... it would be like telling you your rear sprocket on your CB was too small, you should be running a larger one because these bikes are made for wheelies (the only reason a bike is 'made to wheelie' is simple gearing).  i tell ya... if i had a crawler that barely went faster than i walked... i'd be upping the gearing!  so, its a matter of preference.

any vehicle or RC car is made for whatever use the user would like to put it to the test for.

i wasn't sure if that vid was a member's... looks like it is... that comment woulda bothered me too.   :P

Thank you Heffay. Yea i made that vid about a week or so ago when i got bored and wanted to tape a test run with the new Crawler that i had posted pics of earlier. Kinda already figured out it needed more torque when i made the vid..had the original audio been retained and not stripped off by youtube i believe i had commented on the lack of torque during the portion where i was going full throttle towards the stairs lol.

I was'nt trying to offend anyone by the previous comment. What I'm getting at is a crawler is a purpose built machine. Made for going UBER slow with massive amounts of torque and very little wheel speed/spin to yield the best traction. I was simply trying to give you advice about your gearing, and if you had the money to buy the truck to begin with, then you got the money for a little pinion gear. Surely?

As for the other poster's comment. If you had a crawler - you would'nt be crawling over much of anything. These trucks are made to go that slow. Telling someone their gearing is off on a bike = stupid, BUT telling them their gearing is off for CRAWLING (when I have loads of man hours in building, testing and tuning)  is just trying to do a favor and save him the trouble of buying too many parts to make the rig perform like it SHOULD. After all, you bought a crawler to CRAWL not a normal RC truck that's supposed to go faster than a walk. The truck should be able to get a wheel stuck between rocks, then stand straight up in the air by one wheels torque, just before twisting off an axle. Then again mine was built for competition.

I won't comment on this thread anymore or try to post any advice. Seeing how people can't seem to take constructive criticism or comments about their new toys.

geezus...

i was just talking gearing over in the top mph thread.

why doesn't everyone just stick out all their toes right now so we can get this all good and done.

What i took offense to was it seemed like you were cutting down my truck and bragging about yours in the same post. In regards to the affording a different pinion gear it comes down to the fact im waiting till i can afford a 55T motor to install the 14T gear i have sitting in my parts box onto.

Bit of an update...the collection has grown a fair bit...the Scorpion has changed a lot in the past couple months as i had time and money to play with it a bit more.

Scorpion Crawler changes first...

Started with this back in feb.

A Traxxas T Maxx 2.5 has also joined the fleet

Wow!  120 days.
Need to revive this thread since I just got the Christmas present I bought on Ebay.   ;D

The original receipt that I got with the buy is dated 12/23/94

My "new" RC10T

http://s822.photobucket.com/albums/zz146/MotleyRox/?action=view&current=f4d33e67.pbw

The shocks need redone, it needs new tires and wheels.  Maybe I'll even get a new body to paint up to make it mine.  Overall a good vintage machine.  Haven't run it yet, gotta go buy a bunch of AA batteries!  I think I'll switch out the speed control for an electronic and I've already started moving stuff around in there.  I can't wait to rip it up!  :D 8) ;D

i had my hot-rodded Team Associated TC-3 out the other day. about a year or so ago, i got a bunch of new, heavy duty parts to replace the stock ones i kept destroying, aluminum differentials with all new balls and gears, carbon fiber drive shaft, new spur gear and new pinion gear on the motor, i also replced brushes in the 19, 14 and 23 turn motors and messed with the timing settings. this car also has the rally kit that Associated used to sell, i have a set of decent dirt/asphalt tires as well as a set of really sticky slicks and with the right motor, timing settings and spur gear this thing flat out hauls, i know it does at least 35mph, possible faster and it sticks so good in the turns i'm just as likely as not to flip it over if i keep it going full throttle. it has a subaru impressa body on it presently and i have a 2005-2009 style mustang body still waiting to be cut out and painted. i'd forgotten how much fun these things can be. i wish there was a track within an hour or 2 that i could run at. i usually go down to the now empty pigglu wiggly parking lot that was resurfaced a year or 2 ago thinkking they were going to get a new store in. nice and smoooth and pretty much debris free. i have a duratrax evader BX buggy too but it's going to have to wait till i have the funds to replace all the broken stuff on it.

Those are some amazing planes!  I'm not sure I'd have the balls to fly them after taking all that care building them.  I guess the same could be said for old motorcycles, though.

I just very recently got back into the world of RC cars.  When I was a kid I only got as far as the Hornet and the Monster Beetle, but that was enough for me.  About a month ago I got my brand new, re-released Tamiya Hornet!  It's exactly like the one I built almost 25 years ago, except for the electronic speed control, which is a nice improvement over the original.

I think I'm going to be replacing a lot of parts on this car. 8)  I've already broken and replaced part of the steering servo linkage, and I just broke the main differential gear yesterday.  A new part is on order.

I think this might be a part of the reason for the problems: ;D

i've been really tempted to build the large scale DC-3, with the wood frame and all. the dc-3 is the best looking airplane ever built imho and even though i'm terrified of flying i still want to ride in one someday. but yeah, maybe build the kit then sell it to someone who knows what theyre doing. are those large scale kits real expensive? minus the engines and radio gear of course. might be a cool winter project when i'm in too much pain to hike down the back stairs to the shop. something like this one but larger, i want to do the wood framed, complicated kit. i feel like i have the modeling skills (35 years of building one moder or another) this can be something to help me keep my sanity during the winter months when i dont want to work in an unheated shop.

not a bad price considering the size of the thing. maybe at some point in time over the next few months i can scrape together enough pennies to get one LOL

Just threw some parts at my RC10 B/T build.
Novak 10.5t brushless motor, Novak GTB esc, tie rods and ends, Proline DIRTWORKS tires, a whole new set of Robinson pinion gears odd-sizes from 15-25, a few spurs at 81 teeth each, and an RC10 Proline clear body.

i ran the modified TC-3 this morning, i guess the slicks were a bit older, and drier than i thought since the contact area on one of them seperated from the sidewall. time to put the rims/tires into some boiling water to get cyanoacrylate off and to seperate the tire from rims, save my pennies for some new tires.

I had to get new rear wheels for the new tires.
The old 3 piece wheels were deformed and all gouged up, plus they're a pain in the ass.

Still need wheel bearings front and rear and a new set of dog bones as I noticed last night that one is slightly bent.
Other than that this old beast has really come to life.

This was my Christmas present to myself.  Tamiya 1/10 Subaru Brat.  I spent most of Christmas day putting it together, after putting together all of my son's toys first, of course. ;)

It's the exact same car as the Frog, but with different wheels and body.  It's a much better and more durable design than the Hornet, but I had to start with the Hornet since that was my first kit RC car when I was a kid. :)

I really like these Tamiya kits.  Fun to build and work on, and plenty of parts available for the inevitable repairs.  I already have a faster motor waiting to be put in the Brat, just need to get the right size screws to mount it.  I also need to get some more metal bearings for both cars to replace the stock plastic ones.

I'm really tempted to get the Lunchbox monster van next, but I really need to stop spending so much money on RC stuff for a while.  Maybe for my birthday this Summer.

Here's a Heffay-filmed and produced video of the two of us running the Hornet and Brat around the icy streets.  I was running the Brat and Heffay's running the Hornet with the camera strapped to it.  The end of the video is where he does a cartwheel down the steps, into the side of the brat, and the camera falls off and goes rolling along the sidewalk. ;D

Very nice!! :)

I've been thinking about getting my dad an RC helicopter kit.  He used to fly Hueys for the Army in the 70's, and I think he'd really get into it.  I might wait until my wife and I move back to Texas so I can work on it with him, though.

i want the early ford bronco kit that they have now. 379.00 and it's not an RTR either. but it LOOKS badass. i have a Tamiya TA-04-s belt drive 4wd with the skyline body and wheels but my favourite is my 6 year old Team Associated TC3 with the rally kit and 12t motor. i'm using a 3400ma nimh battery in it now and with the right gears it plain hauls ass. the last thing i did to it was replace the plastic differential halves and changed to aluminum ones, lets hope they last longer that 8 or 10 battery cycles before they melt like the plastic ones.

have you ever seen anything cooler in an r/c truck? i have dreams about this kit

I told you, you would crap your pants ;D. I couldnt belive it either so I had to order one. I nearly passed out when I opened the box last week. It is super sweet and sure beats spending 450 dollars on an Align T-rex 450. They clame all Align parts are 100% compatable too. EXI also sells a complete head and tail rotor set for like 39.95.http://www.xheli.com/exicncmerohe.html

I'm having a really hard time not ordering one of those right now! :-\

So,
This http://www.xheli.com/24ghz-rc-helicopter-transmitter.html  + This http://www.xheli.com/exitsecaedhe.html is a complete package?
How long can you fly it before recharging?

sorry if this is a dumb question.
