Flooded Carbs
« on: July 24, 2005, 02:59:10 PM »
I have fuel dripping out of my carbs. When I try and start my bike it will fire for about 10 seconds then die.  Then gas starts pooring out my carbs until I turn fuel off.

What does this mean and how do I fix?

Thanks

Sounds like you floats are stuck.  Check the FAQ and do a search on carbs, you'll get lots of info.

if fuel is coming out of your overflow on your carbs then it can only be one of three things
1 float levels set incorrectly or floats punctured
2 needle valves sticking due to wear in needle valve or wear in needle valve housing
3 dirt in carbs
which ever it is the only cure is to remove carbs and thoroughly clean and check them hope this helps

Without knowing what year and type of bike you have, this is difficult.
For instance, I have fiber floats in my carbs, I do not get holes. Thus that does not apply.
Do now the biggest reason for overflow is stuck floats.

So check floats, they may be dirty or worn and the float seats may be dirty.
The next problem, again this is dependant on your bike, is the overflow tubes. In some bikes, these are brass and sometimes crack so check for that.

Now if this fuel is dripping from BETWEEN your carb and float bowl, then check the gasket and replace.
If it is coming out of the carbs, Then you are looking at a float issue. Dirty jets do not cause issues like this since not enough fuel can usualy get into the carb to cause the drip. The needle should not cause this either.

you are looking at something with your floats, these cause 99% of the overflow trouble.
