CB650C at the redline

I once owned an 81 CB650C, and it would do 70 mph at 9,100 rpm in 5th gear. Was that how it was supposed to be geared?

Are you sure that was in 5th hear? Sounds more like 2nd. ;D

I haven't had my 650Z to the redline in 5th, but with the stock gearing I'm running, it should reach approx 195 kmh/121 mph at readline(9500rpm).  At 50mph/80kmh the rpm is 3900.

The engine appears identical. What was odd was the way I set the bike up. It had Kawaski mags and CB550 guages. There was a little yellow line at 70, and the "red" area was the same color on the tach. I think the stock guages were much the same. It was pretty quick, but it was really going at anything over 55.

Kawi mags would be the first clue.  Plus the 650 tack didnt have any yellow area.  My race bike does 93 at about 9200 rpm but it doesnt have stock gears.  Stock gears should be good for 120 but the stock speedo (except 79s) only go to 85
