My bike is coming together
« on: November 29, 2007, 11:22:06 AM »
Thanks to everyone here for the helpful pointers and to Gordon who gave me a bunch of info over the phone.  The bike is running strong through the entire RPM range now and the CR carbs seemed to be dialed in well with the needle set in the middle, 115 mains, and 3/4 turnout of the air screws.  I still have to sync the carbs and I'll do that when my Morgan carbune arrives.  The bike feels very strong and I brought it up to 5k a couple of times but I'm going to go easy for the next 50 miles and then take it up a bit higher.  No more white smoke.  I tightened up all of the clamps on the intake rubbers and that might have been the culprit there.

Woohoo, no more smoke ;D   Congrats on passing the build stage and making it to break in. Don't be afraid to rev the motor up a bit early on, higher revs and engine braking will help those rings seat quicker. I know it's hard to trust that everything's ok, but 7000rpm should not hurt your motor and a good run through 1st,2nd,and 3rd gear(after the bike has been ridden for 15 minutes or so to warm it up) is a good idea.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Ok!  I'm off on my second ride today.  Today I installed my brandy new front fender, rear brake light, and new halogen headlight so I'm relatively safe.  I'm going to go for about 1/2 hour this time.
