Stand-Alone Racing Throttle
« on: July 25, 2005, 12:44:01 PM »
Alright Guys and Gals, here's another question from your Northwest Ohio partner in crime:

I've posted here a few times and have been thrilled with the feedback, so here I go again...  on my own...  (that was a Whitesnake joke... nevermind)

Anywho, I'm building a CR750 replica and I'm having a really hard time finding a stand-alone racing style throttle assembly for my '76 CB750F.  I'm basically looking for a throttle assembly that doesn't have the kill switch, starter button, light switch and mirror mounting hole on it. (similar to a dirtbike throttle)

Does anyone know if there is a company that makes an off-the-shelf unit like that???

Thanks for the help!!!

By the way, I attended and camped at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio for the AMA Superbike races this weekend and I brought my dad's (you'd swear it was new) '75 CB750K.  I was the lone representative for the mighty CB750's and it grew quite a following.  I honestly couldn't ride it into the track area without getting stopped by someone so that they could get a picture with it.  It was very cool!  I hope my CR750 replica gets a similar response.

If you're after something like in the attachment, then Magura http://www.magura.com might be an option.

They have a downloadable catalogue here:

Another option is the throttle assembly from a VFR400 NC30 , RVF400 NC35, NSR250, or a VFR750 RC30 basically all the same.  I have used the unit from the NSR250 on my yoshimura racer and the stock CB400F cables are a perfect match, plus you can also use the engine kill swicth with or without the stater button.  I have also used the same throttle on a CB1100R classic racer that I am building, the anodising was a bit faded so I gave them a good polishing for that classic look.

Thanks for the idea Robert, I'll have to check that out.

Hey Kevin,
Do those throttles also reduce the pull ratio of the throttle tube?  I feel like I'm turning the current tube 5 times before I get to wide open throttle! ;D  I realize that all CB's are like that, but it really sucks when your used to riding modern sport bikes with "1/4 Turn" throttles.

Hi Nate,

Kevins idea of the NC30 unit is OK. I use the same on my CR750 rep along with the master cylinder for the front brakes.

Good luck

I might be able to pick up a used magnesium body quick turn BUT I don't know about the price.
