That one doesn't do a lot for me, but I agree. There are bikes out there that I would like the chance to buy and can't. I get tired of the same old stuff that is designed just for the USA, because that's what somebody thinks we want/need. Or they make a good bike but it only comes with a shaft drive or a v twin. Why can't I get a naked 600 that runs like a cbr 600rr. You go to the Honda website and they say build your bike - pick a color, tank bag or some other stupid thing. I want to build a bike for me  >:( >:( >:( at a price I can afford dammit. ;D ;D ;D Oh well maybe next year. :'( :'(

I don't understand, I thought as you got older you were suppose to get wisdom and respect, but I just get picked on and laughed at ??? ??? Some of you guy's aren't very nice. ;) ;) ;)

Had a look at the 2008 Transalp at my local Honda dealer and it sure looks very nice. I have ridden a 2006 model and if I were to buy a modern bike this would be one to consider. Or the Kawasaky Versys.

Well, you've got to look to the younger ones if you want respect; not a GHOF like me.  And you're right; some of us aren't very nice.  Wait till we get down right cranky!   :D

          Agreed, Medic (about GHOFs getting downright cranky)! And, as we GHOFs get Older, we tend to get Crankier more often! ;D So, if we unload on someone, try to take that into consideration. :( :D

          BTW, I'd never considered something like the Transalp, but it does catch my eye and has caused some interest. 8)

You can bet I can; this and last month's magazines cover the Transalp extensively. Nevertheless, it is not my cup of tea.


I don't know ekim financial status, but mine, after 15 months sabbatical, is very near to exhaustion.... but it is never that bad so I can't get another cheap bike and spend the cost of a new one in parts and work. It always hurt less if you pay little by little.


Hey, if the manufacturers doesn't want to sell the cool bikes in the States it is not my fault. The american market has always been considered the more mature market, but seems that the cruiser craze is harming the sales in every other bike category.

 I guess they think we all have the "hardley"mentality in the US. (I know it's spelled wrong, like someone else pointed out there are a few here that are prejudice against harleys, me for one). Even tho there faster than all getout, just look at the Z14, Haybusa and what ever the Yamaha is called. There as big as trucks. Don't get me wrong, I really like my cb750, but the only reason I got that was because the price was right(cheap) so to speak. I was actually looking for a 305 Superhawk or a 350 four. Make all the add on's they want but offer a basic bike and let us decide what we want on it.

Price and personalization. Something about doing it yourself, and the fact you can. The alp would do it but you would never see me spend that much on a bike. Ever...

Now, now, you US guys. "i can't buy this, i can't buy that".... Maybe, but you can AFFORD anything you want. Just look at the prices of bikes, parts, fuel, heck, nearly everything in US. And with dollar where it is...
Ibsen needs to pay over 7$ a gallon to go for a ride. Now, which one of you would consider this normal? I need to pay over 5$, so, in general perspective, you have SOOOO MUCH more better biking life, than we, Europeans do.

Stop whining then, and import yourself one - but don't be sirprised at the price  ;D

P.S. Can't wait for my x-mas present - refurbished seat. Imagine today being plus 10 celsius, and sun! And that was supposed to be winter! I just couldn't hold, and stole my wife's Virago - boy, who wants to ride such geometry??  ;)

Economy of scale. You are right about affordable. I guess the grass is always greener...

I think in Europe there are more riders that are happy with midsize bikes.

 Insurance costs, hp class, fuel consumption,  all add up to bigger bikes costing more to run and own than in some other countries.

These bikes are torquey, can be fitted with bags, and will do shorter trips 2 up.  In short enough useable power.

There is a lack of wide open spaces over there as well.. and the bigger is better mentality is a bit harder to afford over there..

I agree... It just seems that there is something that supports the biking in Europe. The irony of the bigger and better they are not taken as a serious transportation, more of a secondary form of transport here in the USA.
The Big certainly has taken over the mentality here.
