Bought a vynyl record with bike sounds.
« on: December 09, 2007, 02:07:41 PM »
It was a few weeks ago in eBay. A 70's record, unplayed, with 70's bikes' sounds. I got rid of my LP player a couple of years ago, but my sister still keep it, so this afternoon I took the LP and my computer to her place and ripped it into wav, then into mp3. Would you like to have it?

It's about 100 Mb. I wonder if Glenn can host it. I can put it in emule and torrent. I did with the CB750 DVD, and I know it has been downloaded, but haven't heard any feedback.

It is VERY slow process...
I am downloading it for a week already,  at a pace of 2-3 KB/s.

(not giving up)

I have just fixed a problem with the link to the torrent file.

In the rar file, along with the mp3 files, you will find pictures of the front and back LP cover, the LP track listing, and the inner booklet as well. That is, you can only get closer to the vinyl by stoling it from me.....  ;D

The last track is cool because it is just the eight bikes running pastway in front of the microphone. As it is recorded in stereo, it seemed like the bike was going from left to right across the room!!! I'm considering recording a CD and playing it in my car stereo, to improve my car engine sounding......  ;D

OK, help this GHOF out. What is 'torrent,' how does it work? I clicked on the link and got what looks like binary code. :-\

Don't worry, I will record a cassette tape and mail it for you.....  ;D

First you have to download a torrent client, for example, microtorrent.

http://www.utorrent.com/download.php

Install it and execute it. You should have saved the torrent file that I posted above. That torrent file is, basically, a link to the file in my computer. From your torrent program, select File-Add torrent, and select my torrent file. It will add the file to the torrent window and start downloading. You need to have the computer on and the torrent program activated, it can take a while. My computer has been on, except for long weekends or software updates, for more than one year, so that is no issue for me.

Once the download is finished, it is a compressed .rar file, so you will need Winrar to decompress, and you will get .mp3 sound files and .jpg picture files, but I guess you already know how to deal with these.

Thanks for teaching an old dog a new trick. ;)

Oh, thanks for the offer of the cassette. Can you make an 8-Track? ;D

My torrent client says the file is seeding, and actually, has been uploaded up to 70 Mb. Are you getting it?

Well, the old dog got it. ;) It took a very long time though, so the 'hibernate on completion' feature came in handy. Gosh, my first use of a peer-to-peer client. ::)

P.S. Haven't listened to them all yet, but the ones I have were recorded in true stereo. You would swear the bike was flying by behind the monitor. Very cool. Thanks Raul.

bit torrent (even though there was an advert for it on the utorrent download site) was not doing anything w/ the file.  weird because we've downloaded gigs and gigs of stuff w/ it.  i downloaded utorrent and the download is working!  yay!  slowly like everyone says but, that is to be expected.

Dang, that's too bad.  :( So did you try a couple of programs to extract the .rar file? I have found sometimes an older/newer .rar format will give you some errors.  ::) www.powerarchiver.com is a good multi-format extractor  I don't see why you should need a different client to get the torrent file working  ??? ???  I really would like to get this if anyone has a alternate link. The emule link is down. btw

So you mean that the GHOF got the file before you did?

I don't have much experience with emule sharing -I do have with downloading though-. What I did was to put the file on my shared folder, let emule refresh the list, and copy the link. If I'm not wrong it should be available for download.

I'm using WinRar 3.30.
