WTB: side cover rubber booties
« on: December 17, 2007, 08:53:39 PM »
Ok...I can't find these anywhere.  You know what I'm talking about, the little rubber round things that hold the side covers in.  Anyone got a set?  I'd trade you a wiring harness  or something else from my spare parts box(es).

Thanks a bunch guys, I just spent about 30 hours sanding and priming and sanding and painting and sanding and painting and clearing my side covers, just to find I can't put them on because I lost the booties.

-Robb

EDIT: Ok, I just realized I didn't post in the WTB section. Sorry.

I think I have a bunch of side cover rubber grommets for a 750 in the garage.  What bike do you need it for?  Anyone know if they're the same for all models?

I've got two different size grommets.  I have 8 that are oval, about 25 mm total width, with a hole that is about 15 mm wide.  They look smaller than what is on my 750K.  Don't know where they came from.

I have 5 (sorry, not 6) that are oval, about 35 mm total width, with a hole about 20 mm wide.  These look more to me like from a 750K.

Anyone know what Robb needs?  I can mail them out today.

So Robb, based on your photos and the Ebay link for the $25 set, I can send you 4 large and 2 small grommets.  They're old and use, but still serviceable.  Or you can spring for new.  Let me know.  Send me an email or PM with your address and I'll get them in the mail tomorrow or Thursday.  I've got them on my desk, as long as the cats don't steal them.  ;)

Without dismissing the good will of those of you who would give them for free, I advocate for using new ones. If the old ones are hardened, removing the sidecover will be more difficult and it could help to breaking one of them.

$25 for the seat seems like a ripoff to me, the Honda price should be around $1 each as much.

By looking at the parts fiche for a dealer near me looks like they want $6.34 for the bigger ones and $3.26 for the small ones. It also appears that the left side of my K5 750 takes two of the bigger grommets at the top. The bottom takes the smaller one. While the right side takes all the small ones. So thats right at the $25 mark Honda must of firgured people would be needing lots of rubber parts.

You absolutely can order these from a Honda dealer.  I ordered mine just a couple years back.  Get new ones and lube them a little bit to keep from cracking your sidecovers.

Well, I agree about new ones.  Similar to getting new carb boots once ever 100 years.  ;)

Having said that, if Robb wants my old ones, I'm happy to slip em in the mail.  I just need to know how many big and how many small and where to send 'em to.

Ride safe all!   ;D
