I'm new

Hello,

I've been signed up with this forum for a little while, but have just been a voyer, not really posting anything.

I've been riding motorcycles since before I could pedal a bike and really have spent as little time off of them as I can.  I started as most youth do on the dirt with a Yamaha JT70 and graduating to a Honda SL70. Oh, those were the days!

My last ride was a '89 Honda VTR250 which came as a basket case and I got to be a pretty nice little machine. Purchased for 130 bucks and sold for $500, with much less than that total investment! The next owner blew the motor before he even registered it though. JERK!

My new horse is a '75 Honda CB550 In far less than perfect condition.  I purchased it with salvage title for $350 with a "running" engine.  Couldn't hear it run though because the valve cover was off.  Got it home, started tinkering with it, got her running, did a quickie valve job and set the timing and about then is when the #3 rod went thru the block. Seems that it spun a bearing and the rod cap had about enough of that so it jumped out for some fresh air.
Upon cracking the cases I found another rod with spun bearing. It was a wonder that I got this thing started at all!! Let alone the fact that it didn't make any kind of knock once it was going.

Anyway, just like any city in a flood area or on a fault line, I've started to rebuild.  I've searched to the deepest darkest parts of eBay getting all the 550 parts that you guys are probably trying to outbid me on and will be throwing everything together soon enough.
I suppose that I could start my own journal and keep people up on progress, but I'm really not that great with fabricating stuff, just putting it back together.  My Pa's the one with all those skills, so I'll be hitting him up for some badass advice. I've also been following this cat Carpy for awhile and have hit him up for answers to some of my more perplexing questions. With any luck I'll soon have a bike lookin' like one of those ton up machines he makes!
