Toycollecter,

What I meant was there is no end to what you can change or upgrade.. but eventually it becomes a less and less original bike.. Original bikes always show some wear..

The older bikes are the harder it gets to find original, and the higher the value gets..

That is why I brought up the others as an example.. I know a guy had a 49 pan.. original paint with a dent in the tank.. no way he was going to fix it and ruin the paint. It actually had white on the bottom of the seafoam green tank..with little curls like waves, it was owned by a navy guy. He added the white paint or curls.. but it was part of the charm of a2 owner bike!

Resored bikes tell no stories.. every nick or scratch in an original is another marker of something that happened to the bike along the way..

But if a part is real bad, change it if you have to..

Thanks for that 754..Yep I understand alright. My K0 has a slightly different amount
of fading on the headlight bucket, fork ears, side covers, tank and air box etc but I'm not going to
repaint it as that would sort of spoil it. I got rid of the rusty spokes and poished the hubs. Rebuilt
the carburettors and serviced the brakes and forks etc and a whole lot of very minor stuff.

It runs like a brand new bike but it kind of looks used, which how I like it.

With the Z1, I will do the spokes and hubs and detail the cosmetic bits and also get the engine
running as best as it can. The pipes are a bit munted but I can live with it. POR the tank etc...
Keep it as original as I can but also make it look a bit better.

Here is a picture of my little 73 Trail 90.  This was my first bike it belonged to my grandfather who bought it new.  His best friend owned a Honda shop and sold him a 72 and a 73.  The 72 was sold to buy me a 3 wheeler.  It has just over 500 miles on the clock and it is a blast to ride around town.

I don't know how this little thing survived 42 years with it's original paint, rims, spokes, bars, and cables all in tact but she has. I bought this several years ago to replace one I had when I was 11 (38 years ago. I have the original seat put-up, but it's seen much better days. It still runs like a swiss watch, just doesn't have near the power and speed I seem to remember my first one having back then  ;D

I'm not so sure a restored bike doesn't tell a story.  It just tells your story, a different story.  A resto can have a lot of love final coat over the primer of blood, sweat, and tears.  And money.

I've sold several primo bikes this year.  Very sad and frustrating, but, aside from my 400, here's what I have left;

W650   A friend calls it a Watchless.

R100 conversion w '53 Steib S500.  I'll never sell this.

'52 R67/2   Still working on it.  Finally got an original carburetor  (if anyone needs to borrow a 15x1 bottoming tap, I have one), got the front fender brace fitted, trying to get the rear wheel straightened... stuff like that.

Hmmm- the real one isn't all wavy-gravy like that...

Anyhoo- wrote his name down but now I can't read it.  Way nice V7 Sport.  My favorite here so far.  (he knows who he is)  Have to say there are some awfully nice bikes up, though.  I'm kind of surprised there aren't more Brit bikes up here.  And only one other Beemer.  Sad.

Oh- that one sidecar rig without a body- can't tell from the picture; is that a Ural or Sunbeam?

Bill- why us that rig only temporary and what kind of SC is that?
