Bud Ekins. R.I.P.  Even though Steve McQueen exuded cool....   (His sunglasses were recently auctioned off for 60 grand !) There is an article About him in the Jan 2008 Cycleworld with the subtitle  "We all wanted to be Steve McQueen.  Steve McQueen wanted to be Bud Ekins."
