My first bike was a 1977 CB550K that went into storage about 7 years ago after I sold it to a friend who didn't yet have a place to keep it.  We lost touch about 5 years ago and, I've since learned, he moved out to Colorado.  I guess he forgot about the bike and, since we never transfered title, I guess I might as well get the bike back on the road and ride it or sell it.  The 550 is really my favorite rider amongst the SOHC/4 bikes and normally I wouldn't think of selling the 77, but I also have a low-miles 1978 550K that came to me as a torn-down, though mostly complete project bike.  It is in much nicer condition than the 77, so I might end up just getting that one back on the road.

So add me to the list and I promise I'll update this post with pictures as soon as I'm able.

Hey gavin are those factory size tires?  They seem to be huge.  What brand are those?

Hi mate. No way, far from being a stock fitment!  ;)

Memory's flakey - Avon whitewalls, seem to recall it's a 140 width - same tyre front and rear (front's actually running a rear tyre). Both ends use the original hubs laced onto replacement wide rims to take the new rubber. Handles like a dream too as she rolls around those nicely in the corners. Just have to be careful as you can grind bits (pegs, shifter, number plate, exhaust) very easily now!

In order to shoe-horn all that up front she's running custom billet yokes with the stock forks (shrouded up top). The front rim and tyre's too wide to fit in the standard yokes so it's all widened out on the front end (wheel spindle too).

Pics just don't do it all justice!

Hey Jeff.  Good to see ya and that's IS a mighty nice job on THAT one guy! ;)  Haven't seen you around in quite a while. Take care.

                                        Later on, Bill :) ;)

Hey thanks Bill. I've been kinda busy. In April I moved back to IL from Minnesota with my wife and baby daughter. I then temporarily lived with my parents till my MN house sold, then bought another one in my home town and spent the last while painting, organizing, working, etc. It's been crazy, and the only riding I had been doing was commuting. Now it's winter and my bike is still at my parents' house. I'm dying to get the carbs redone, but short on time, money and skill. Skill can be overcome with the help of this forum I'm sure, but that still leaves time and money. :)

Hey Guys,

No pics yet, but add me in with a 1973 Cb500 and a 1975 CB550F.  The CB500 has been in the shop for a long, long time, and now that my garage is nearing completion, I will reclaim her and finish her off myself.  The CB550F is dead stock, runs like a champ and killed a deer and lived to ride away from it this past Fall.  I call her the Deerslayer.  I will update with pics when I have them.

Depends on country.  American models had Cb550k from 74 to 78  The F model was from 75 to 77.
Other countries, things were different, I'm told.  But, I wasn't there.

Hey Lloyd? Would you like to be added to the list? I know you have at least two of these things lol..

Sure, why not?  They are listed in my sig.  If you count the parts bike, (mostly complete but a bad trans) I have eight 550s and a 500. I only have pictures of two or three of them.  I keep thinking I'm going to park them all in a row on the street and take a picture.  But, the logistics of moving them all probably means it will take a whole day to do it, what with the polishing and all. ::)  Besides, it's been too cold to do much with them lately, only 50 degrees or so outside makes my fingers hurt.  I can suit up and ride them okay, but, I don't want to work on them. :D  The garage has the recent addition of a 77 750F that is a work in progress (waiting for a lower fork ear grommets to refurbish the forks and restore the headlight), so it's my repair focus right now.

Right now just two of the 550s have batteries in them; a 77F and a 76 F.  The others are providing winter homes for spiders out in the storage shed.

Cheers,
Lloyd... (SOHC4 #11 Original Mail List)

Cheers,

Britain didn't get K until 78 with late model carbs.(and four pipes.)
CB500f was still being sold in 75?I think they only had F1  in 76/77 and F2 in 78. and I think the the CB650 was on market after that.(79)
I can only remember the 1977 F1,  but I have an F2 or two? (I forget what I've got, only know F1 for definite as its my avatar) I sold the K to my brother so I think I had four at one time
