Author Topic: CB750 K2 v. K1 v K0 sidestand?? (Read 5200 times)

I had a chrome 1978 sidestand on my cafe CB750 K2 and the end of the sidestand was not long enough and would hit my HM 300 pipes. So today I switched back to the K2 sidestand - see photo and it STILL is not long enough!! It hits the brand new HM 300 pipe (only one new one) rather than the black rubber circle

.....does anyone know if the sidestands were different between the early years and if I got a longer K1/K0 stand this would solve my problem -see photos......

original part was50530-300-000 but that changed to 50530-341-670 for ALL models up to the K4 that ends my book, so either its not a 750 one or its bent

I don't have a spare, but your welcome to check out the one on my bike when you come to pick up your pipes. Yours may very well be bent from looking at your photo.

Andy...I agree yours looks short or bent. Here are the pictures of my KO stand. I changed the bumper as I did not like the little one. I do have an extra you can have for postage if you can not get yours to work. Let me know...

Seems to me like yours is bent Andy.

Three or four years ago I thought that the sidestand on the CB750 was too long, so the bike stands too upright while on the sidestand. That's dangerous because if the bike is parked off-camber, a slight hit and off the bike goes.

So I bought a spare sidestand -the later model, with the rubber tip-, cut it half inch shorter, welded and installed. The bike actually leaned more, but from my impression, the center of gravity was this time too much over the sidestand that I was worried it could bend either the stand or the metal bracket where it attaches to. Furthermore, it would hit in the muffler, short of the rubber stop, and therefore, as I got no advantage and only disadvantages, I reverted to the original sidestand. Unfortunately I didn't have a digital camera back then so I have no pictures.

Looks bent to me..

Park on it and if the footpart is not pretty flat to the ground that tells you..plus you can see where it is touching the skinny part of the stand..

Wa that you that left all them marks in the asphalt at the bar!

Is the round RPOS what they send you when you order latest generation HM 300's ?? That really blows.. but maybe a good thing if you can tell early originals and later ones apart..

The easiest way to tell the latest generation HM 300 and the originals is that there is this giant paragraph stamped in the backside. It talks about those pipes not being appropriate for bikes made after '78 because of noise and stuff like that...

I almost cried when I saw all the crap on the backside of mine, but, when I installed them, you cant really see it, unless you're reeeallly looking for it. Oh, theres also a giant reinforcing plate welded on the pipe where the kickstand rubber goes....

Andy, it looks like your kickstand is bent...in case you hadn't heard.

I've found that sidestands generally get bent in the mounting bracket. Not the stem itself, but the bracket. With a vice and a long pry bar you could put it back in shape. Just make sure the mounting bolt is installed so, once the brackets get bent, they remain aligned. Or bend the tabs without the bolt and then make sure the bolts go in, beding the tabs as needed.

Mick its funny you should ask as I have just installed the sidestand that Johnie sent me - today! Its now snowing :-)

Anyway the result is - Johnies sidestand does hit the rubber...just....but its very stiff to get up and down. Ill take some photos tomorrow and post them. It is an improvement over the old sidestand Im happy enough with the result. Thanks again to Johnie for helping me out. Id bet yours is also bent Mick.

Andy...did you try the larger rubber like in my previous picture? And the "stiff to get up and down" might be the area where the stand bolts to the mount might be pinched in to much. I used a wedge on my new one to open that up a little as it was binding.

Mick here are some photos taken this morning...

The sidestand was from Johnie, the rubber stop is stock for the HM300 pipes (pictured). I may take Johnies advice and get the larger rubber stop.

Andy...that larger rubber stop I use is part number 95011-64000. It is a OEM part for my CM400's that works the best. The OEM large rubber for the 750 center stand is just to short.
