I got an email from a member, said he used to race Whizzers.
We did too at a vintage track near here.

Anyone else ridden or owned these??

I got a cool idea for hopping one of these up using CB 750 parts!!

Just wanted to see how many on here are into these bikes..

I'll see if I can find the pictures of a couple whizzer's I took. One has a new custom made cylinder and head with a Honda 750 piston and the other one is two engines side by side with scrambler type exhaust. It sounded great with he fired it up. He has one that scored a 96.6 I believe in a show last year I think. He also helped build the twin engine Whizzer that set the record at Bonneville Salt Flats = approx. 61 mph. You wouldn't believe the factory stock Whizzer parts I saw in the back room. Plus stock Honda parts for a lot of smaller Honda's. Great guy to talk to. Still rides flat track some. He started racing flat track back in the 60's I believe he said.

Yeah, I remember the Whizzers, the Servicycles (also Simplex), Cushmans, Alstates (Sears scooters, mopeds and motorcycles), Mustangs (way before the cars, kinda like a cross between the Cushman Scooters and a motorcycle), Solex (bicycle with a motor mounted to drive by running on the front tire of the bicycle) and various mopeds. The originals of all of those are pretty pricey now!

Only found a few pictures that were any good, so here they are; no I didn't ride any of them but he did start 3 while I was there. The one with the 750 piston flooded out and wouldn't start.

I know it dates me, but I remember seeing the originals around (back in the day)!

I saw my first Whizzer in a NJ museum last april.

there was an assortment of other American made bikes + 1 Honda 90

Now, THAT is the kind of whizzer that I used to see back in the 50's. Matter of fact, that looks like a Schwinn bicycle like one I had in Junior High School, with the spring fork.

hi Bill
yes the red one is a Simplex not sure about the other.
When I upload pictures to Photobucket it reduces the size of picture so the writing on the tank has become unclear.

Yeah, I can't tell about the other one for sure. I feel like it is another Simplex though. Funny how a number of old scooters and such are out there being built up like that. Every year around April (I think), there is a fair size gathering of scooters, mostly Cushmans (Silver Eagles, Eagles and Highlanders, for the most part). I usually go and kind of browse a bit and leave. If I think about it, I'll try to take some pictures next time (if some would like to see them).

The guy I meet here in KY, Kenny, helped build this bike/engines for it's land speed record run. I believe he averaged 61 mph both ways. Not to bad for a bicycle.

Sure wish I knew where to get a picture of that Cushman Eagle I saw once, that had a Honda CB350 motor in it!

Why not just go ahead and drop a Gold Wing or maybe a CBX motor in one?

I have to say, I've never seen one with a Sportster engine.

Got any pictures. What would you call it (the Sportster powered Cushman), the SportsMan? Or the Cushster?

My Dad had something like a "Whizzer" after WW2 called an "Auto Bike", but not as fancy as a Whizzer, and two stroke (Villiers) powered. It was heavy and English, so pretty much a POS, and he said he pedalled more than he "rode", ha ha!

I wouldn't mind a Whizzer, but 90 pounds is way too heavy, so I'll stick to my 20-odd pound, 35 MPH "Whizzer Wannabe", ha ha! Cheers, Terry.

That aint no 20 lbs.. weigh it..

my blue whizzer weighs 75 lbs. and is 138 cc's...of 4stroke asskicking raw power...

The engine kits weigh around 15 pounds, and I'm not sure what the bike weighs, but it'd still be half the weight of your "ass kicker", ha ha!

Imean, it DOES look like the forerunner of something!

Kinda considered building my own once. You see, I had this chain saw that needed a new bar & chain and I also had this bicycle and had thoughts about mixing the 2 together to ride to work!

Work was only about 2miles away, after all. My old 69' road runner was just getting good and warm by that time.

Ha ha, well it might be Bill, it's a "sandcast", ha ha! After looking at those great pics I've got an idea kicking around in my head to put two of these engines in the frame side by side, I've already got the second engine kit, so it might just happen! 61 MPH? Pffffttt! Mine'll do 70! (maybe............)
