front end swap
« on: January 20, 2008, 03:38:56 PM »
the pics are backwards and I dont want to try and fix it. this project took me a day form start to where I am now. the donor bike is a vf700f. I had to grind the welds off both stems and then press them out. To get them out I used a motor mount(threaded on both ends) and socket and tightened it until the stem pressed out. getting the stem back in required a hydraulic press. once that was done it was a simple matter of putting it back on. the back end was/ is a bit trickier. the vf uses two short bolts that function as a pivot/shaft. when I looked at the fact that I would also be gaining two more inches of swingarm length I decided to use my swingarm. the axle diameter appears to be the same. I played around with the spacers until it appears to be in the middle of the bike. still have to fab up a bar for the caliper to bolt to and fab up the brake lines, but all in all not a bad one day project.
