Hole in my leg doesn't seem to be getting any bigger so I guess the worst is over? Been almost 3 weeks so far  ::)
Did some work on XS chassis today (cut off almost all the 'unnecessary' brackets)
Also made some exhaust flanges and lightweight aluminium clamps for the 360, got first part of exhaust pipe  and flanges welded up, need to fit it to bike to line up the next bits, maybe later today? (don't know how well the alloy is going to stand up to the heat, bought some stainless steel plate ready for a disaster ;D)
Got some porting done on second 360 motor, both exhaust ports and one intake 'roughed' out.
Found some bar to make a brake pedal mounting, bored it 20mm, need to weld it onto frame, told ya I'm doing something different for rear brake, its still mechanical operation not hydraulic though (pics when its done)
All for now,
PJ

PJ, Somehow I hadn't noticed the latest post here and didn't know about your delima concerning your leg. Hate to hear that, but glad that you seem to be on the mend. If it was a Brown Recluse (and it sure sounds like it was), those things can sure cause some problems  alright. :-\ You take care of yourself and know that we are looking forward to your medical updates as well as your "Project" updates. 8)

Hi All,
 heres pic of my leg

got appointment at doctors in AM. Looks like its traveled around a bit as I seem to have another bite further up towards my knee?
Did some more work on the XS650 frame, cut off about 20lbs of scrap iron, then, I made most of exhaust system for CB.
I couldn't believe how long it took to cut up some sheet steel and bend it into a cone shape with oval at one end ( I probably should have used thinner steel, its only 1/16" but I thought it would be easier to bend?)
Cutting was the easy bit, in fact so easy I did it twice, (got it right second time   :D ::) )
Pics are on photobucket, heres a couple and link
I made all the bits to fit it into head, had to make a couple of 'washers' to weld onto pipe end so it can but up against gasket. (I haven't found any way to make 'nice' flanged ends on pipes)
Pipes start as inch and quarter, stepping to inch and three eighths, then inch and half (all inside diameters) into collector which is slightly wider than two pipes side by side and a shallow taper into inch and three quarter outlet pipe ( may go to 2" to get inch and seven eighths ID) I didn't have time to do that as well, collector took too long to make It fits nicely under the crankcase and there is still room to get the drain plug out
(I hope  ;)) I made it for the frame without center stand mounts so may have to fit slightly different outlet bends to clear wheel and tyre then make another one in a few weeks time (only used half of the mandrel bends I bought, but, I did manage to screw two up already)

Almost forgot, I also bought some Xylene and mixed it up with ATF (didn't have any wintergreen oil)
Softened up airbox boots for CB350 four. I'm now trying an intake manifold, not sure what it came off but it is in perfect condition - except for being rock hard. Will give it about 36 hrs and see what happens.

Got some major antibiotics from Doc, redness/swelling is already going down after 2 days. ( still got 'the hole' though)
I have to get some more mandrel bends as I'm going to make at least 2 more systems for the other 360's I have.
Guy who runs dyno in work owes me a favour so I'll get it finished then see how it performs compared to the (I think) MAC.
Wont be able to get a run for at least two weeks though, has to fit in with class. Going to run stock carbs so any change will be due to exhaust only

36 hrs in xylene/ATF didnt do much for manifold boot.
Been 4 days now and is starting to soften (I can actually flex it slightly) going to give it a few more days then post results.
Going to do some more welding on pipe later this afternoon, hopefully get it finished.
I'm also going to get a glasspack silencer to try on it, the Walker no. 24210 looks like it may work quite well, its stainless steel so should shine up nice
I contacted them and they sent me details. Shipping weight is 3.4 lbs so I guess its only going to be slightly lighter (by the amount of weight of cardboard box)

Well, I started welding and the heavens opened.
Real bad thunderstorm (only slightly worse than 'normal' for Florida)
I did get it finished though (maybe, I may weld some more onto end to change total length and possibly outlet angle?)
Its also painted but needs some time to dry before I can re-fit it ( probably next weekend-I have to move too much stuff out of garage to be able to do anything during week)
I'll just put one pic here, will link to photobucket when I post the rest there
heres link. Its same as before I think?
I added 10 pics, 53 total at present (although there are some of turbo unit and other stuff)
I also added some information or explanations to almost all the pics.

Got new new exhaust made and modified it already.
Had a dyno run with jetting for 'original' (MAC?) 2:1.
Bit disappointed, lost  almost 2.5 hp.  :(
Should have checked petrol tap, it was almost completely blocked with rust so I guess the fuel flow wasn't as it should be.
I cleaned it out this afternoon and pick-up was much better but don't know when I can get back on dyno
The silencer is a 1.75" Thrush glasspack.
I thought it was sticking out a bit too far even though it looked pretty good from side
It sounds nice though and cost less than $40.00.
I'll get dyno print out scanned and post it up later
Pics are MKI, MKII and MKII from rear
Brake pedal stop is bent but as its being removed eventually I haven't fixed it

Finally got bike back on dyno with the finished exhaust and at last managed to get EGA hooked up.
Its running a lot richer than I expected but the home built system is doing its job really well. I may even try stock jets?
The first dyno run had 1.5" primary pipes running into a 2.5" collector. The jetting worked for the short pipe with zero back pressure but is way too rich for the 1.25"+ stepped system I made.
The original system (its aftermarket but was on bike when I bought it) was also loud enough to make your ears bleed.  :o
There is going to be very little if any back pressure in the system I've made, but I'll be OK with up to 2psi (that's going to be next job, weld in a fitting for a low pressure pressure gauge) I'll post scan of dyno run tomorrow. Interesting point, They ran a Suzuki DRZ 400 SM  and a Suzuki GS500 just before me and both were only putting out around 32 bhp with correct jetting so I guess 32.76 ain't too shabby when you can see power falling off because its running way too rich (got down to 10:1 air /fuel ratio) I'm hoping to get 40bhp when done but realistically I'll probably be closer to 37~38

Love the look of the exhaust.... Hows that muffler sound at high revs???
I Thought about throwing a set w/ some 4-2's on a CB650.

Sucks about your leg.... Brown Recluses are nasty.  We've got 'em all over here in Indiana and I'm prayin' I never meet one.

Cheers...Joe

It actually sounds really good.
Its pretty quiet and deep tone at idle and never gets stupid loud.  All the high frequencies seem to be muted so it sounds like a bigger engine although that may be due to exhaust length as well.
I'm not too sure how long it will last but for $40.00 it is worth the experiment. ( compared to $70 for cheapest 'bike' silencer)
I think I'll get Cherry bomb next time as they are a bit cheaper than Thrush, not sure how much if any difference in quality?

I also am building up a 360 and am fascinated with the use of the gs pistons.  First, are the original wrist pins and con rods used? and second what do you use for a head gasket.  Your ideas are quite amazing!

I think I put the information on the 350 twins site but as that's disappeared I'll post it here.
The pistons are completely stock as are the connecting rods.
The pistons are about 30 grams lighter than stock Honda so here won't be any problem with the rods breaking (less chance than with stock pistons)
The 360 uses larger diameter small ends than the CB350
As posted at beginning of thread, I milled head about 0.025" and did a bit of porting and re-cut valve seats.
I made a copper head gasket but they are available from Lani at Copper gaskets for about $30.00.

One last question, honestly, I am just fascinated, do the gs850 pistons fit the stock 360 connecting rods?  It is so awesome to meet another speedfreak building a 360.

I guess you misunderstood the above post(s), they fit straight onto rods without any modifications, the only thing you have you do is bore cylinder 2~3mm oversize and get a different head gasket.
That will give you around stock CR.
I skimmed head to get higher CR as motor is never going to be on the street ( although it runs fine on 93 octane gas)
I've done a couple for some members here, PM me if your interested.
I think I have one more pair of GS pistons (not sure, I'm doing 2 motors for myself, this is he 5th or 6h motor I've done as 378cc) but I know I have at least one pair of Yamaha pistons which fit (XS400, did a 487cc conversion on one)
They are not as light as the Suzuki ones,(30gm lighter than stock) only a few grams lighter than stock Honda ( 6~gm)
As a by-product, I have quite a few stock~1mm oversize CB360 pistons if anyone can find a use for them ( they don't fit CB350 as they are 16mm pin instead of 15mm pin)
I have lots of fun fitting parts from different engines into-different engines in the last 30+yrs
I've done CB550 to 591cc (Its usually called a 605 kit?? modified CB750 pistons), CB400 to 490 (modified CB500f pistons), Suzuki GS1000 pistons into CJ250 (14mm overbore) Yamaha XS650 to 800cc and 860cc,Yamaha XT350~ 422cc - that was quite challenging, loads of 'stock' aftermarket stuff ( CB600~636, XR400~440, XR250~270,etc)  ;D

Done nothing on the 378, got rolling chassis 'rolling' for XS800 motor though. still need to make spacers for rear wheel and try to fit Yamaha wheel instead of the Kawasaki one (well, it is a Kawasaki front end  ;D)
going to modify wide front fender to fit rear
Just in case everyone doesn't know, Florida went nuts on license plates, $1076.00 for first offence of incorrect mounting
