I've read many times about "viton" seals for the valve stems, to keep oil from going through the guides into the combustion chamber. When I rebuilt my CB350 engine I didn't see any such oil seal, only the valve guide, and there was nothing missing according to the parts manual diagram. But I'm uneasy with this, as the engine was rebuilt before I bought it. It is very unlikely that the oil seals, if there were, were unserviceable to the point that the mechanich couldn't reuse them or couldn't get a replacement. So the question is: does the CB350 twin have oil seals on the guides?
Second question: my mufflers were in bad shape so I got a good-looking second-hand set. The exhaust pipes were ok so I used mine. No matter how hard do I tighten the clamp, there is smoke going out by the tube-to-muffler(silencer) junction. The parts manual lists the exhaust as a complete unit, but the CL350 show some kind of asbestos gasket (18391-318-000). Can somebody tell me whether I can use them straight away because the exhaust pipes are the same diameter in both CB and CL? I'm willing to think so, as the head is the same so it's very likely that the pipes are the same diameter. If you have a spare set hanging around I would appreciate if you could tell me the diameter of it where it goes inside the silencer; I can always buy an aftermarket set but I need to know the diameter and I would like to have them ready before desassembly.
As always, thanks in advance!!!!
