Total list for 836 upgrade
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:23:48 PM »
I was looking to see what would ALL be required to do an 836 upgrade.

I know the kit of course which has pistons, rings, and what not.
WHat else should be done?

I have a 78k Which is supposedly a little stronger in the valve department.

I would like to get an idea what I need so I can start shopping!

Mreick and Terry seem to know this pretty well.

Eldar,

It all depends on how far you want to go.
If the bike is for normal road use and just needs a rebore you get it bored to fit the 836cc pistons.
Hope this is of some help for starters.
Over to you sir.

Like Sam said...how far do you want to go? At the least I'd make sure the head is in good shape, add a cam and heavy duty cam chain.

Well I guess I want to get a bit out.

So I was looking at replacing the cam. It does not need to be too hot.

Also I was wondering what can be done with the head.

I was thinking a minor port and polish. Would this need new valves and springs?

I only have about 13000 miles on the bike.

With only 13,000 miles I'm sure the guides and valves are OK. Some port work would work perfectly with some more cam, additional compression and displacement. If your interested in port work PM me.

Hi Eldar,

That was the reason I said "it depends how far you want to go".
You can release a lot of power by having your head reworked without putting in any go faster tuning parts.
I was meaning to ask Mike if he had ever reworked a head on a totaly stock bike withe no other mods to see what figures it turns.
I have worked heads myself and you don;t need a Dyno to find if it's any better.
Mike has had a lot of very pleased customers on this forum for his work and if you are going down any road I would recomend you go down this one.

Good luck with your project.   Sam.

I thought about that. I can get the head done and then later put in 836 if  iwant.

I am rather old, thought I had mentioned it.
You can get a decent cam and the 836 pistons from them at the same price as from Wiseco
