75 CB750F Build...new seat

1975 CB750F. A few pictures of when i bought it and before i put it away this fall. I havn't done much this winter but i'm hoping to have a new engine that puts out a few more horses by the end of this season.

Some of the mods I can think of off the top of my head are....
Raask rear sets
Vortex Clip ons
powdercoated and re-laced wheels with new OEM SS Spokes
dual disk conversion
stainless steel braided brake lines by Russell
4 into 1 header
velocity stacks and jetted carbs
dyna S ignition and Coils
bobbed front fender
rear lowering shocks from Cycle Exchange
bar end mirror
tapered bearing headset
new control cables
new brake pads
new chain
grips
smaller turn signals
aluminum headlight mounts
powder coated headlight trim and grab bar with welded on mounts for the turnsignals.
NO tac or speedo.....
I'm sure theres lots more besides paint...let me know what you think so far.

Future mods and plans

new engine with big bore kit, cam, and headwork, with new internals
new seat... i will rework a spare seat (with a lower to the frame front section)
CB550 fork tubes to lower the front 2 inches,and progressive for springs
more powdercoat for the calipers and fork legs
bigger carbs(maybe even just a set from a 77 i have laying around)

Also I have a Lockhart Oil Cooler installed i forgot to mention and a tinted lexan points cover.(very cool)

Great looking ride!

Do you have any clearance or handling issues while cornering with the bike lowered?
You can't make too much popcorn, but you can definately eat too much popcorn.

Great build and I like the low profile. Do you have a shot of the gauges (or lack of) - say a shot from the riders view? Bike looks great!

Actually.... I find the bike handles great.... its a really stretched out riding position though... even for a tall guy like me.. 6'3". only major issue i had was the bars did hit the tank... to fix, i took a very small peice of steel.. maybe 1/8 by 1/8 by 1/4 inches and welded 2 of them on either side of the frame stops that the trees rest up against when the handle bars are turned fully in either the left or right position. that gave me the clearance i needed. Thanks for the compliments too... its good to hear... being 24 years old most of my friends ride newer sport bikes. the best picture of the lack of gauges i have is this one.

Wow now Im interested....you are 6`3 and this bike is comfortable to ride? Reason i ask is Im 6`4 and was thinking of doing a lowrider/stretched out bike but wasnt sure it would be comfortable. Apart from the rear shocks (what are they anyway -11`? Brand name?) what else have you dont to achieve that stretched look? I think the F`s are more amenable to this (I used to have an F2 and it felt huge). What size tires do you have - front/back? Front looks big...

Great looking bike and I like the colour schemes.

Not much else was done... stock swingarm, although i was planning on using a GS750 tubed swingarm thats about 2 inckes longer but the handling would be the #$%*s. lol 11" shocks on the rear, Pulled the fork tubes though the trees about an inch. I find without the gauges and lights on the trees it looks alot sleeker... Also if you lower the front headlight with some aftermarket brackets it makes the bike look lower aswell. this summer i will build up a new set of forks with 550 tubes, 750K fork legs, and progressivly wound springs. suppose to be 2inches shorter than stock... so another inch lower in the front from now. tires are bridgestone. 120/18 rear and 110/19 on the front. Its the biggest you and run on teh front... i had to tweak the fender mounts abit, especially with the dual disk conversion.

Chrome don't get yah home.....

sorry.... 11" shocks from cycle exchange.... 100.00.. not bad quality either.  I have bottomed them out a few times,  but our roads here on the eastern side of canada are the #$%*s. my neck and shoulders sometimes get sore after about an hour...but it looks good so i put up with it. the superports are deffinatly a good start if you like the stretched out look. they are a few inches longer than the K's and i like there boxy look.

I like the look of it.  I'm not running a chain guard either right now and it makes me a bit nervous.

I'm 5'9 and would like to lower my 750k without sacrificing handling.  I'm 195lbs, you think I'd bottom out with those shocks?

I took the chain gaurd off of my SS, too. Basically, with the rear sprocket as small as it is (41 vs. 48 teeth) it just didn't look right, you know?

i like the look of being able to see the chain. much more mechanical looking. i run a new chain and whenever i remove it i usually install a new master link.

I think I can lower the front a bit by bringing the fork tubes up higher in the tree no?

I agree.  I'd like to fab up some kind of a cagelike thing to make it a bit safer.

Yes.. sliding the tubes through the trees helps...i have no complaints... i mean its abit slugish feeling turning wise... but it is, what it is. i think once I put the 550 tubes in, it will feel much better.... although as of now, I have to be carefull aproaching speed bumps as it is.... my header usually scraps abit..lol

Oy!

I was wondering if lowering would make you bottom out.  I have 6 speed bumps called "Raised Speed Tables" on my road as there are 2 highschools, a junior high, elementary school and the College of New England.

Sluggish turning doesn't sound inspiring either.  How will the 550 tubes help?

She shure looks great though don't get me wrong!!!  Many sacrifices are worth it for looks.

well.. by lowering just the rear, it increases trail which makes the bikes turning feel slightly clumsey, not so much slugish. Its really not that big a problem.... i was just letting you know it does change the feel of the bike. the 550 fork tubes being 2 inches shorter like the rear shocks should correct the amount of trail increase, and make the bike feel alittle more like it did before i lowered the rear. and i agree that performance can sometimes be subsituted for looks. ;) in the 70's, many honda guys and other bike owners often extended there fork tubes as you may know, which creatated similar problems. there are deffiatly limitations to everything. I enjoys casual drives on my bike around town and in the country and really have no issue with handling or the control of the bike. My bike also has a huge collector pipe being 2 3/4 inches, and causes the exhaust to hang so low... depends on your exhaust. If you were running Mac Drag pipes or a stock styled exhaust i couldn't see much of a problem with it hitting those speed bumps.

I run the stock headers with a 750A muffler thanks to the PO.  You're giving me the inspiration to try it.  I have a set of 11" rear shocks on a parts bike anyway so it's not that difficult of a swap out if I don't like it.

Yours is really a looker. 

I was wondering about the removed gauges as well.  You ever feel a need for them?  Like when the road goes from 45 to 25 and you have a cop behind you?  ;D ;D ;D

I was atually running a solo speedo on the bike, but the little aluminum bracket i made started split, so i removed and and liked the look. i would rather mount a smaller speedo if i was going to have one, just haven't got around to it. i suppose i'm taking a chance, but....

a few pictures of assembly. I polished the engine covers by hand. I spent alot of time smoothing the valve cover for a unique look.
