5 hour days...I wish, 6am just finished a night shift, well below zero here and white stuff everywhere...what happened to global warming?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

in theory, temperature extremes are part of it... 'global warming' is just a small but catchy partial name for the climactic shift.

Blah.

Yeah, 4 days/week, 1 8 and 3 fives. Effective Monday, 6/22, the day after my parents leave so I can chill out, kick back and sleep in, dammit. :D

So, just waiting on parts to come in... R/R from Oregon guy, stator/rotor from tim parrott, accel pump diaphragm from crc something or other... I dunno. It's all running together. Till the bills clear the bank, then I'll remember in detail.  :D

Once we get everything on and tested, we will try to give you a report on each and do some threads for recommendations or warnings, as the case may be. I'll have to get a better bike to keep up with her. Mine is only an 883.  ;D

Hey it's a CB650, you are making it reliable not fast. :D
Speed freaks like Soos make these bikes go fast, animals like Marti make them look back-street cool by adding the grunge factor. ;D
We just restore and pray for some modocum of daily reliability. :)
I'm impressed by the amount of $ you are putting into D, but the payoff will be that it will be one bike you wont have to be fiddling with once completed and you can do some of that interstate touring you are hankering to do.....if you can still afford the gas. :D

Good tools are a wise investment. The great thing about our bikes being 4's, not many bikes out there have more carbs, so we are pretty well set carb sync wise. The one from Z1 enterprises is pretty decent.

WOW!!! Kit ordered the Reg/Rect Wed evening and we received it in the mail today. (Friday) Packaged very well and it really looks like a great setup. How he did the heatsink and wiring is much better than the OEM quality by far. He gave some additional instructions on adding some dielectric grease to keep the connectors from corroding, which as I'm sure anyone who has read this thread knows, Kit was already planning on that one. It will go on the bike when the rotor/stator come back from the rebuilders. We don't want them to degrade further and pop the new R/R with them.

Still waiting on the accel pump diaphragm and brushes. Not much communication on their part so I've emailed as to the general geographic location of said package. Yes, I'm impatient sometimes. Mostly when someone keeps Kit waiting.  ::) ;D

Oh, yes on the lean Harley situation here in the US. I remember my '89 had more kick, definitely. It kicked me in the shin really hard one time.  :D

Harleys needed Kawasaki 900 points to make them faster when i was a teenager, all the bikers dropped Kwaka points in and bypassed the electronic retard unit Harleys had.

Thats funny hush, using jap parts on a US bike to make it do what it should already be able to do....
Harley has made some good tech progress in the past few years though.(finally)

Don't tell a HD owner this, they might slap you if you were in the US.

Did you know Japan supplies many of the internal parts for Harley these days, some of the HD guys at work sheepishly had to admit importing bits required to keep their Harleys on the road from the land of the rising sun. ;D

Well, got a bunch of stuff done today. Went to the hardware store and got some stainless steel allen head bolts for the rotor/stator setup when they come back, (yay!) and for the top of the accelerator pump setup when that comes in (yay!) then to the Honda store for a couple gallons of oil, a pair of filters and thankfully they had that washer that goes between the spring and the filter, too!  (YAY!) so today I got an oil change done.  What came out was about the color of a deep amber beer.  Not too shabby. I even ran a bunch of Seafoam through the oil to clean up the crank case a little better than just your standard oil change.

Found I was missing a bolt holding the oil pan on, hence the slow weep (no drips, just a weepy leak) I'd seen earlier.  I grabbed a bolt off Samson and put it in. Waiting for it to feel torqued down, when it went *snap!* ... just past the start of the threads.  Dammit!

Well, I figure it's A) a very slow weep anyway, so I can deal with it B) not in any location critical to the function of the bike C) has 9 more bolts and two in very close proximity backing it up ...so next time I need to drop the pan, I'll look at it, but for now, it's staying.  Just discouraging.  The rest of the oil change/cleanup went well.

I used the unicoil spring thing to route my fuel line.  That seems to be working well, too, thankfully, so that's all good.

Figured out what that mystery, ribbon-in-the-wind-like *fipfipfipfip* noise was.  Somehow my tach cable decided to destroy itself from the inside, so down at the valve cover where it plugs in, the casing was all peeled up like a banana and the naked tach cable shaft was still plugged in. Weird.  So... pricing new tach cables.  Do they need any kind of special lubing inside?

All in all,
Full day's work.

That would be grafite powder, we shoot it into the cell locks with a puffer tube thing to lube the locks, never heard of it in a tach cable before but I'm guessing it will work and wont jam anything up.

my lube of choice is this stuff bought from the bike shop.  A bottle will last years, so the price point is pretty low and the stuff works SERIOUSLY well.

Just wondering if I SHOULD lube those cables because I haven't seen anything about that.

I lubed all the cables on my 500, sorry brain isn't working too well, can't remember who they were manufactured by but they were higher end (IMO). I know they said to lube them when I got them.

I don't lube the tach and speedo drive very often but when I worked on barn finds and garage treasures I just pull out the cable and cleaned it and the sheath.  Then put some grease on the cable then slide back in.

If its really bad siezed I just replace the whole thing.
