Gauge face help needed- font?
« on: February 07, 2008, 08:20:07 AM »
I've been working on making some new gauge faces.  I'm trying to replicate the originals as closely as possible.

For those who might be interested, these are done in Xara (a free vector based graphics program) with separate layers for the gauge face, cutouts and numerals.  This will allow me to change any of those elements independently or add additional graphics easily.

Anyway, I've been looking for a font that replicates the original as closely as possible.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  If I can get these finished, I'll post the files here for all to use, if there's interest.

The files are too big to post (.5 and 1 mb)-  I'll be glad to email to anyone interested though.

At first glance, I'd try the Futura family. Very common font with lots of iterations. If you can post a scan of the gauge face it would make it much easier to match.

I really like the font that you used on the first post.

Thanks for sharing.

There seems to be several different Xara trial programs.
Could you post a link to the program required to open these.

Thanks
Jimmy

I'm running Linux (Ubuntu) so the Windows world may be slightly different-  I used the Xara Xtreme package.

Type face looks like Zurich XCN BT  or a it part of the Univers type family.
Both were around 30yrs ago.
The mph at the bottom is likely Helvetica

I have Zurich if you need it.  PM me

This is pretty close. The 4 is the biggest giveaway, but if you convert it to outlines in Illustrator you can close that gap. or if you want to email an EPS to me i can do it for you pretty quick.

here are copies of the ones I got from Ebay if it helps anyone. They are for K0 - K1 bikes. The black would need to be touched up further because I just made a negative image of my white ones.
