Hey guys just wanted to share some of my progress, on the only SOHC bike that matters! HAHA I love my 400f

This is my next rebuild project. Gotta do an engine re-gasket & rings on mine. Where did you find those pipes? Yoshi's? and where is your other header?

I'm not a huge fan of those gauges, but the rest looks AWESOME!

ok ok I'm a fan of the 350f little brother as well!

I got the pipes from the 400fourstore.com

They are yoshi replicas from japan. I like them because you can use the center stand and remove the oil filter without the need to remove the pipes first

Did you have to rejet for those pipes?

Yeah I dropped the clip one notch, I still need to do some fine tuning.

I've been on the fence about what I will do with my 400. The collector on the header is rusty and I can't find a decent header for a 'reasonable' price, so I'm curious about your experience. Did you powder coat? Are you happy with it? Why did you go with the yoshi?

I'm thinking of getting it ceramic coated, the paint that comes on it kinda sucks. I'm really happy with it because it looks cool. I have always loved the short stubby yoshi pipes. They sound pretty good as well.

You know you can still get Yosh pipes for the CB400F from Japan for a little over $400, but it looks good. Check out APTech's bike, I had to look twice at this one.

Mind if I ask what you did to the fuel cap whilst painting the tank?? Have you covered it in something? Or is it an old one that you removed and fitted a new one after spraying?

Did you use a tank sealant also?

Sorry for so many questions, but my boyfriend needs to seal and repaint the tank on his Suzuki RF600 (I know not an SOHC or even close!). any hints gratefully received.

Hi thanks for the compliments. Regarding my pipes, I live in a dense neighborhood and they are not that loud. They have a nice rumble. Not an annoying chopper sound.

I masked my cap poorly. I think i'm going to put a new one on. Mine is pretty beat up. But it is possible to mask them nicely.

I had my tank steamed cleaned at a radiator shop. I also run a good inline fuel filter that I change often. They are real cheap and are worth it on these old bikes. I have also heard of people using good magnets on the bottom of their tanks to trap bits of metal.

Question on the gauges, or more specifically the tach. Mechanical or electric? If mechanical what is the drive ratio? Where did you get them from?

Yeah the engraved piece will go over the alternator. I haven't had time to drill it yet. Hopefully this week. I will post more pictures

nice bike, so many questions, but I'm nowhere ready for any of it, so no reason to bother you. Lots of good hints on the tank and gauges, which I love! Still not sure if I wanna do something like that or just redo my stockers.

Ok so its been awhile since my last update. I have been busy working on a nice little seat for my bike. Using the stock seat pan I added Expanding foam spray and with an angle grinder I shaped it to my desire. I was going for a Giuliari style seat. I then taped off the seat and fiberglassed it to make it solid. I trimmed it down and took it to an upholsterer here in SF. He did a great job and it was super quick.

I just got some new spokes in which along with rims I will be powdercoating black and gold. I sent my hubs out to be polished. And I'm in the middle of making some billet aluminum parts, A rear brake torque bar, maybe some motor mounts.

Always something!

I'm considering losing the rear fender and running a slim LED brake light.
