Kgohst and DammitDan--very close

It's the axle and/or substructure from a traditional decorated Sicilian oxcart.
It was "liberated" in the early 70's while I was on a "tour" in Italy with the
U.S. Navy.

The inscription on the axle says "fratelli vaccaro vizzini" as Dammit Dan noted.
Vizzini was the last name of a Sicilian mob boss who the U.S. worked with when
we landed in Sicily during WWII.

Hi gerhed
yes I Googled "fratelli vaccaro vizzini" to see if it gave any clues to what the item was and saw the Mafia links, since I can't understand Italian it did not make any sense.

Hooray!

When I googled that phrase and went to images it brought up a couple pictures of a dead Italian kid who was shot while riding a scooter.  I didn't know if maybe you had something to do with it gerhead  ;D

Not guilty !
But I do have more european artifacts-the identity of which cannot be divulged
because I'm not sure about municipal and national statues of limitations.

So you ARE the Indiana Jones of the SOHC4 forums!
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.
