tailight fuse
« on: August 05, 2005, 12:22:39 PM »
Hello,

Any advice on where to look for reason for 5 A fuse to burn out ? Pls advice !  I got already pulled over once by highway patrol.  :-\. All  lights are working fine with a new fuse but not for long...

You could first check for water in the housing. It seems to be able to get in, but not out.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Thanks for the reply. If you mean housing for the fuse box - I do not have any !  it flied out somewere on highway ...  Rider who was behind said there was also metal part  which took off but I did not identified it yet ;)..

Since I have no housing I am using longer fuses - I could not find short 5A ones locally .. I thought it should not make any difference but may be it does ...

i think you would know if you lost all your fuse housing coz if it's like the 750 it holds more than 1 fuse , i think killer canary ment your rear light housing  :-\ mick.

I disconnected  taillight/stoplight  and front and rear turn signals and still keep frying 5A fuse with ignition on ...  the diagram I have from pdf manual is really hard to read through.. unfortunately there is no color diagram for 750f iin FAQ secton..   well, I guess I should do more reverse engineering on it ;) .. maybe ignition switch ? -- serge

Check all the wires going to the taillight any place where the wires can rub on the frame, including the wire harness clamps. If can see bare wire anywere, wrap with electrical tape and re-adjust the clamp. Make sure you move the clamps around and make sure there are no bare wires.

Thanks for all the replies !!  I tracked down the problem to the spedo backlight. I disconnect it and everything else working fine now with fuse intact !!
