Well.....I changed my mind as to what I was going to build.  I opted to forget the rear shocks and now it's lowered and a hard tail.  Struts made out of 6061 aluminum (thanks to chopstar) and will be powder coated black.  Eventually, it will get a 21" front wheel and a 16" rear.  I still have no idea what sort of seat I'm going to go with.

I think you're taking a very organic approach to this bike, letting it speak to you as it's built, affecting the final outcome.  That's great, let the bike be what it wants to be, rather than trying to shoehorn it into a particular niche.  It's certainly shaping up nicely.

The bike is looking great. and i agree with mystic on the idea of the bike letting you know what it wants to be. Also the approach you took to get it to being a hardtail will allow you to change it up later on if you so chose.

Thanks guys!  Like I said in the beginning.....I'm just building it as I go along.  I change my mind from 1 minute to the next.  So this is the only way I can build something.  I guess I have bike building A.D.D.  ;D

You do know that there's no cure for that, don't you? ;D No, and I'm afraid it only gets worse. :D Only thing you can do for it, is to just KEEP ON BUILDING  and hope you can keep the symptoms down to an acceptable level. ::)

Yeah I know it gets worse.  I'm trying to keep this build at a reasonable dollar amount.  At least that's what I tell my wife anyway.  ;D

I've done a few things on the project.  It's been slow going the last few weeks.  But I did manage to install the new headlight and brackets, got the 16" rim and spokes for the rear(not installed) and purchased a different tank.  It's a fiberglass tank that was made a long time ago for a CB750.  I have to do some trimming to get it to fit correctly and I'll have to relocate the petcock from the front right to the left middle.  I just couldn't get past the look and size of the stock tank.  Here are some pics for comparison.

Looks absolutely great. It's insane how small that fiber tank looks sitting next to the stock tank. So far this bike looks like something completely unique, and not "unique" code word for "weird"  :P  Can't wait to see what you do next. Have fun.

I think that tank looks great with your handlebar setup.  Nice lines going on there.

Who made the tank?   Any idea?

No I have no idea who made it.  But I will say it's not perfect.  It's going to take some work to get it to fit correctly.  The front mounts are uneven as well as the rear piece is also crooked.  But once I get that all straightened out it will be nice.

Anyone know what year CB750's use the single nut petcock?  What's the difference between these two?

the petcock on my 76 750f looks like the one in your first pic, although it has the fuel outlet line pointing down

Your build is looking great.

Have you thought of letting the tripple trees drop down on the fork tube about an inch to even out the stance a little?

I'm actually going to put shocks on instead of the struts.  That will even it out.

I haven't worked on the bike in a while.  I've been out riding with all the nice weather that we've had.  But I did manage to get a little bit of work done tonight.  Laced up the rear wheel.  I'll have to have somebody true it.  I suck at that.  The rim is painted with stainless spokes and polished hub.  The hub is real dirty in the pic.  Looks better in person.  I don't know if the paint will hold up.  But if it doesn't I'm going to look for some aluminum 40 hole rims and PC them.  Also, the f*cking spoke kit came with 19 straight and 21 bent spokes.  I should have 20 of each.  I'll have to have the company send me another straight spoke so I can finish.  Anyway, here's pics.

Since you are going with shocks...what are you doing with the struts? My roommate may be interested in them for his 550.

Love how your bike is coming along. I really like the red frame, and I agree the one color that will really set it off is a pearl white for the tank. Are you gonna use side covers are rewire the electrical somewhere else?

Did you use the stock front fork boots? Or did you replace em? I got a 76 550F that needs new boots if you aren't gonna use em  ;)

Hey trav, your project is looking like its really starting to come together. I am new to the forum and you are inspiring me to  start on my cb500 project.

A few questions. Did you use dupli-color high heat for the motor? If so, what color? Dupli-color recommends putting the newly painted parts in an oven for 3hrs @ 200 degrees because of the resins in the paint. Thanks!
