Installing K1+ Carbs on K0 Engine - hell on wheels!
« on: February 27, 2008, 11:13:41 AM »
Hi gang!
The project is coming close but I can't get the carb insulators on a set of K1+ carbs on an early die cast engine, #1021790. Are the intakes  located slightly differently on the K0 motors? I've purchased new insulators and they don't seem to want to go on very well. The 1 and 4 ones look too long. I know it's a tough job but this is rediculous. I did have them on once but the aircleaner top portion wouldn't go on properly. It seems the carbs were sitting too high. The frustration level is getting very high but I'm too close to give up now, besides the $'s spent. I've tried a set of old insulators which seem closer fitting but of course they're rock hard.
I didn't start this project with a complete bike but purchased the engine and frame separately and have been gathering up parts, new and used, to build a "71. I don't think I'll do it this way again.   ;D
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Cliff.

It's been a few years since I had mine off, but make sure the engine side ones are angled just right (right order of course and the numbers straight up). I seem to recall also there is a slight difference on the airbox side as well. If you look at them carefully, there is a slight difference between the top and bottom of each at the airbox end. That is, there seemed to be a 'top' and 'bottom.' Could be faulty memory on my part though. :-\
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I put K4 carbs on a K0. It did run slower but I think the jets were to small. I think you need 120 main and 40 slow.

Other than that, ran great. Actually idled.

I believe that there is a subtle difference between ko --k1 on up to 76
up to 1044805 is different than 1044806 and on up, serial #s    head

GOT EM ON! Oil, heat, muscle (my arms and hands hurt) and 2 4x4's worked. Thanks for the encouragement guys! Now I have no spark. I cleaned up the points, set the gap and timed it with a continuity light but now nada. It ran before, not well but it ran. That just goes to show "There's always something...."

Cliff.
