HM Ignitions on "other" bikes...
« on: March 02, 2008, 02:52:18 PM »
A bit off the SOHC4 topic...
Several riders here, who have "brand X" of non-SOHC4 Hondas, have asked if the SOHC4/Hondaman ignition will run those, too.

As long as it is 2 points, 2 coils, and negative ground, Yes!

There are several out there on CB350s, 450s, a few Kaws, too, Fours and Twins. Work well on Yams, too, like the 650 twins and that big V-twin (Virago).
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Can you make one for 3 points and 3 coils?  My GT550 needs electronic ignition BAD! If setting the timing is bad on a SOHC4 try setting 3 sets of points on a 2 stroke. :'(
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

Not doing what you can to make your bike ride-able during the best riding months of the year kind of defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

Holy smokes, Aaron! I remember those well. We sold a LOT of those at Western Wheels, and its little brother, the 380cc triple. Great bikes, FUN to ride, and what a pain those points were, you're right. Not cheap, either! The Waterbike was even more grief, in that regard, but not as much fun to ride....

I'll tell you what...if you're interested, I can make a triple for you. I also make "singles" for old cars out of this same circuit (I have a 1967 Ford, my hobby car!). So, it would be like adding a double and a single together, in one case, but using the bike transistors instead of the car transistors (they are different parts).

It would probably cost about $125, give or take $10-$15 (no more) and I can't add on of the 3-way, hidden "KILL" switches to that design. It will have to come in one of the pretty, anodized cases (I have gold ones on hand, at the moment, maybe a green one, too) to make enough room for the extra circuit and heatsinking of the transistors. Since it installs very easily, and can be yanked out in 5 minutes if there is a problem, and if you're willing to help me "figure out" a few things, it could be done. I'll give it the same 5-year warranty, in the end, too.

Drop me an e-mail, so we don't tie up the SOHC4 servers with it, at: mgparis@concentric.net .
