'77 K carbs on a '76 K?
« on: March 16, 2008, 06:47:19 PM »
Will a set of carbs from a '77 K fit/work on a '76 K?  (750s)

The '77 carbs have one "fuel line in" as opposed to 4 on the '76 which is fine but I'm wondering about how it connects to the air box and the throttle linkage.

Are there differences that will need modifications?

Doh! forgot about the choke linkage.  The '76 choke lever is hanging off the left side of the carbs and the '77 has a "pull choke" on the console.

Anybody done this adaptation before?

The throttle cables on on the 77 550's are longer, so those need to be changed, and you need to hook up the choke cable. The fuel line also needs to be rerouted. I think that was all that was to it, airbox and intake rubbers all fit the same way. Hope this helps!

I have run them on earlier motors.. make a bracket for the choke.

Stock cable may work, I did not vhange the rubbers, cant remember if I ran the airbox, probably not as I dont like them..

If you want the 77/78 carbs to fit properly without air leaks use the rubbers from the 77/78Ks.

Please do.  I think that you will find that Honda specced a different part for a reason . . . .

I checked both sets of carbs today, the 77's still had the rubbers on & yes they are shorter. They do go on early motors with the 77/78 rubbers on the carbs.

The late carbs seem to be about 1/2 longer including rubbers. To use a factory airbox (with late carbs)the early likely wont work

The 76 & down require about an extra inch clearance above them to operate the throttles.

The early have a 40mm intake end, late has 46mm.
