Hello from the Boston area!
« on: March 23, 2008, 05:50:27 PM »
Hi,

My name is Phil and am a long time rider who just picked up an original 1971 CB750 K1 in Candy Gold! I was specifically looking for a K1 (as opposed to a K0) and it turned out that a friend of mine had this bike for a long time.

I am sure that I will be pinging the board for help in the coming months!

Thanks, Phil

Hey Phil,

Welcome, I'm also from this neck of the woods and live in Needham. Couple of questions, is the Magni 2 valves or 4 per head? I'd never heard of them until your post, but am interested as I have an '82 r100rs.
Secondly, how are you going to ship the bikes to europe? I've been thinking of sending a bike to France, but have been intimidated by the idea of having to get a carte gris and other necessary papers to register it.

Thanks and all best,
Ben

Ben,

Hi, the Magni is a 2 valve, using basically a stock BMW engine from an R100RS. I could get a set of Krauser 4 valve heads, but I have never been a real fan of those.

I know a guy who sends a container over to Germany every year out of Daytona around the end of Bike Week. I was just a little late this year or I would have used him. PM me if you want more details.

Thanks, Phil

Hey Phil,

I didn't realize that the Krauser set up was the only 4 valve  available. I recall that the rocker arms for each pair of exhaust and intake valves were cast as a single unit, and I've read they were noisy and hard to adjust. That's about all I remember.

The container to Germany sounds like a good idea, but I don't think it'll work for me, as I need to get a bike to France. From what I understand, and that's not much, it's difficult to import bikes into France for French registration. One needs to obtain a carte gris and without French provenance, it's apparently difficult. If you use a foreign registration in France, you get stopped more by the local men in blue.

I'll look forward to having a chance to speak with you at a future meeting of the local sohc group.

In the meantime, all best,
Ben
