Topic: Fuel tank mounts

How are the front tank mounts (the ones that go over the rubber donuts on the frame) attached?  Are they spot welded to the tank, and if so whats the best way to remove them without drilling into the tank?  I've got my CB500 tank all set up for my CB750, but it would be nice if I could raise the front of it up a little bit.

Or is it best to just cut the old ones off and make new ones and tack weld them on?  This isnt a huge deal, but getting the tank to fit has been a long process, and once it goes for paint I'm not going to change anything

Rather than take a chance..leave the thin layer of the bracket on the tank & grind off the cup part that goes around the rubber.. less chance of going thru a spot weld into the tank.

 I would try that first & not remove the whole piece unless absolutely neccesary.

Thats a good idea... I'll talk with the welding guy, I think we can make up new mounts pretty easily.
