Joel C I like your thinking ;)

Darkrider, please stop....your killing me ;D

I had a chance to buy one for $800 bucks, but I couldn't ride due to all the snow outside.

It had a few scratches, a leaky: Valve cover, oil pan, brake hoses, front forks.

But it sure was responsive for being jump started.

The problem was, that the bike belonged to his son whom had passed away. But both there names were the same!!!

It would have been fine, but if we were both caught, I could have been fined and jailed says the Ohio supreme courts ::)

Still on the hunt....

A Yamaha V-MAX  ;D

always been and always will be a vmax... until i'm finally riding one ;)

this concept vmax, hanging over my basement workbench, was in cycle world back in the 90's... i'm sure i still have the old rag in the collection.
i thought it was pretty neato so i went to kinkos and had them blow it up for me... that thing has traveled w/ me from kansas to phoenix to colorado to ohio to santa fe and back to colorado including 3 more moves in town!

yes, i'm fairly attached to it.   ;D

^ i see VFR wheels... what do you see?

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

In no particular order;
R69S stock
R69S w Duna sidecar
R67/2 w Stoye sidecar
R75/5 with a later 800 engine all painted (including the frame) in Dover White
Electra Glide
Velocette w E-start
SR500 custom

WOW! you guys have good taste in bikes. ;D

All I can add to the wish list is an Ariel square four, 69 Guzzi Eldorado, and a burgundy Valkyrie Rune.

Nice choices there Aaron. ;)  I've always liked the Ariel Square Four from the 50's. This one is a 1955. There's a story that goes with the first one I saw and it was like this one.

and the story IS?

My Dad says that, one day back in the late 50's /early 60's (I remember when it happened but not the actual date), a fellow came in and asked my Dad to put a bike together for him. He'd had another fellow doing it, but they had words and he just gather everything up and left. When he told my Dad that it was an Ariel Square Four, my Dad backed up. He'd never seen one of those up close and the guy had NO manual or parts book of any kind. My Dad turned him down on at least three different occasions. The guy had had some chrome plating done, paint job and some polishing. He wanted my Dad to put the motor back together and then reassemble the whole bike. Well, one day, the guy came back and started unloading ALL the parts of that motorcycle and my Dad finally said that since he was doing that he might should put it over in the corner and showed him where. Dad would walk by it once in a while, stop and look at it, shake his head and walk on. One day, however, he stopped, looked at it, picked up some parts and started fitting them together. It took a little while to get the motor back together (remember, there are TWO crankshafts in that sucker) and then the rest went together quite easily. When that Ariel was together, it was beautiful! It was a deep purple, with a chrome frame (and that's the most I remember as far as details) and FOUR straight pipes and it sounded fantastic! It wasn't as loud as you would think either. 8) ;)   That was the 1st and only Square Four I have ever seen or heard.

Excellent story Bill! Your dad must have been quite a wizard if he could put that motor together without a book! :o
I have never seen one in person but I sure admire the design. They are way too cool and I would love to ride one.

Thanks Aaron, I'm pretty proud of my Dad in a lot of ways. Being a mechanic is what my Granddad and my Dad did for years. My Granddad taught my Dad by having him build his first motorcycle (an Indian, don't remember what model, probably a Scout) and my Dad did me the same way and had me build my first motorcycle (a 1958 Jawa 125cc). I presume my Granddad did my Dad the same way my Dad did me. Dad handed me a Parts Book and said, "It's upstairs, you just have to put it together!"
I just couldn't believe it. I thought when he said that he was going to give me a motorcycle, it would already be together and all I'd have to do is ride. I might add that the upstairs part of my Granddad's motorcycle shop was not very organized. Parts were everywhere! The only thing organized about it was that parts of each brand of motorcycle, were separated. I had to look all over the floor to find screws, nuts, bolts, engine parts, trans parts and such.
It truly Was an experience and as I grew older, I appreciated it more and more. I was truly fortunate to have grown up in that environment and only wish I could have been born sooner and could have been more involved and possibly have keep that motorcycle shop going when my Granddad died in Dec 68'.

Yeah, I'd like to ride one of those Ariels too. Largest British bike I've ever ridden was a Royal Enfield TT Interceptor and it was Awesome to me. Another one I'd like to ride is a mid 50's BSA Gold Star.

Crocker (any)
Vincent Black Shadow

.......and something realistic
