I live in Iowa City and saw this about 2 weeks ago on craigslist, ever since then Ive been wanting to see the bike. I respect von dutch work, but I dont respect it 50,000 dollars much.

It is not striped by Von Dutch, it is a full paint job, of which there are very few of.

If you simply want a 71 Honda 750, there are many others..

if you have a Von Dutch trucker hat, it is probably made after he died..... and you probably know what they say about "made" collectibles..

Someone has already said it, pull the painted bits and sell them to the collector and then put a new set on the bike and sell that. I know, it is not the same, but if you were a collector you would not ride that bike anyway as you may be forced to test your helmet (or DOT approved bandana in Texas) and then how much would that stuff be worth?
As far as the pipes go, I have the same one on my '70 CB750 and I will either leave them the way they are (they do sound nice) or chop them off at the pegs (rearsets).

I may make him an offer on those bars and install them upside down, Clubmans, eat your heart out.

I think VonDutch's sister sold the trademark of his name and logo to some Chinese clothing company or something after he died in '92.

Think those are the same pipes I have on the shelf. They were on a bike I picked up for parts then decided I had enough parts and could use another rider, they do sound halfway decent.

A small bore (100cc) bike that was painted by Von Dutch and owned by Steve McQueen just sold for around $50K. I am sure that it went for that much because of the Von Dutch and McQueen legacy.

I can't remember which moto rag I saw this in, but if i find it I will repost it.
