Yes as long as you DO NOT rotate the engine with it out---but as a hint there are 3 bolts

Once you have removed the tensioner assembly. You can remove the lock nut and bolt then remove the slider and spring from the outer case.  You could then polish the outer case, check your slider is free to move in and out, clean if neccessary.  Reassemble spring and slider, compress it with your hand and refit the bolt with lock nut.  Just nip up the bolt and refit the tensioner to the back of the motor with a new gasket if neccessary.  When the 3 bolts are tightened, release the tensioner bolt, this will allow the slider to tension the chain.  Nip it up then carry out the normal cam chain adjust ment operation.

well i took it apart over the weekend, that push bar inside the cam chain tensioner was jammed in the housing ,good thing took it off to inspect and clean,if someone just reads a manual,it say automatically adjusts by loosening the locknut yeah right bulllsh*t. I ended up ripping the gasket but i made a gasket with high temp gasket paper after tracing the original,  did the 15 degree after #1 piston TDC-compression stroke procedure to adjust the tensioner,,

its good to take them off, once in a while, I think abit of water can get in and cause corrosion..

My first CB I bought used, with a camchain noise, at a dealer. After I made the deal, I went back and they had "Fixed" it, but still gave it to me at agreed price.. ;D.. my gold 72.. shattered cases on my display engine..
