Bent center and side stands
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:30:11 PM »
It appears that my center stand (its mount point) is tweaked because the bike looks like it is leaning a bit when its up on the center stand.  The side stand also seems to be bent because it doesn't rest on the flat part like it should, instead it rest on the elbow of the stand which makes the bike lean over farther when its on the side stand.

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to straighten these?

C-stand..

Get some help to hold the bike (may take 2 people) with wheels on 2x4s and centerstand down. Get a long bar in between the centerstand legs and bend it back..

+1 to 754's recommendation.

While your buddies are helping you, make sure take a look underneath at the C-stand and sidestand mounts.  When I had my bike on the sidestand it leaned over severely.  I bought a different sidestand thinking it was the culprit, when in fact a PO rewelded the mount incorrectly.   ::)  As a result, I've taken the sidestand off and just use the centerstand .

You sidestand should actually sit on the "elbow". If it sat on the "foot" it'd fall over too easily on soft ground. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
