I'm looking for some input regarding exhaust wrap whether any one has used it, It's good for covering up bad welds and I like the look but I'm concerned about possible heat retention with air cooled motors. I went for a little ride this afternoon for the first time with the headers wrapped and at one stop I noticed some smoke, could have been something in the wrap itself burning off dunno for sure I've never experienced this before installing the wrap.
Anyone have any thoughts
I have no personal experience with exhaust wrap, but my understanding is that the heat retention is a good thing - more heat is held within the pipes instead of being radiated through the pipes, as a result the exhaust gasses don't cool off and thereby become more dense and therefore slower as it exits the pipes.
When done right, it sure looks cool too
I imagine that like any other exhaust-related component, some light smoke when newly installed is probably normal. Voluminous black smoke or open flames, however, may be indicators of some problems with the setup.
