Kerker Replacement Mufflers?
« on: April 17, 2008, 07:46:39 PM »
In the course of freshening up my 77 750F, I pulled off the rusty Kerker exhaust and in the process of removing the muffler from the header, (I tried to be "gentle" but the friggin thing would not budge)I managed to mangle up the muffler (see picture below).

I searched the web, and I could not find a replacement.  I could buy a whole new Kerker exhaust for about $650, or a new baffle for about $120.  At this point I'm faced with cutting off the mangled part of the muffler - this would leave about 1 1/2 inches of contact area to grab the header.  Is this enough?  I realize that I could weld the muffler to the header, but I would rather not do that if I could avoid it.

Are there any other sources of mufflers, I found a few that are less than 2 inches in diameter, but the Kerker is 2 1/2 inches.  Does anybody have one of these things they want to sell?

By the way, running without the muffler is completely out of the question.

You could cut off 1+1/2" and weld on a 2" piece of same diameter tubing.

Thanks, I thought of adding a piece of pipe.  Since the connection is under the bike nobody will see my lousy welding job.

If anyone knows where I can find a replacement (new or used) let me know.
