clutch problems
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:38:31 PM »
i used the search couldnt find what i was looking for. i have a 1975 CL360. any my clutch is slipping horribly.  i tried to follow the clymers way, but it didnt help much. it got a bit better but not much.  so heres my problem. i have to squeeze pretty hard to depress the clutch lever, in 5th gear im doing like 40mph and the rpm is very high. so my question to you is, what is your technique for adjusting the clutch? oh ya it has a new clutch cable and lever.

Back off both cable adjusters to get maximum slack then undo the locknut on the middle of drive sprocket cover.
Unscrew slotted adjuster until you get slight resistance then screw it back in about 1/8 turn and lock lock nut. then adjust cable adjuster at engine end.
If your still having problems you need to strip and clean it out, check ball bearings are in place correctly and everything is moving free. You may have worn out clutch plates as well if you've been driving it with severely slipping clutch. You probably need to clean out oil pump pick up as well

How about that little ball bearing in the end of the clutch adjuster??
If it's missing, your clutch won't work right.

You need to pull the sprocket cover and check the actuating mechanism.
your probably going to have to pull the clutch cover as well to check plates.
The screws on adjuster should be lightly seated, not cranked down as tight as you can go.
If you cant get any slack with the adjuster done as I explained you may have the wrong cable fitted, Honda use similar cables with different length inner wires on many different models. With cable completely removed you should have about two and a half inches of inner wire showing, (I just measured a brand new CL350 cable, it's same as CB360 ones)

Just checked packing, the cable is for a CL360

Check that the cable itself is moving easily.  When I bought mine, there was significant rust within the cable housing which made the pull very stiff.  Perhaps it's not sliding freely and releasing the clutch fully?
