Another snide Harley topic
« on: August 17, 2005, 01:15:26 PM »
A bloke who drinks at my pub recently bought a new FXZSRT (whatever) Harley & wanted to go for a ride with someone.
My K7 "rat" volunteered so we went for a ride through the mountains up here (the ones I ride every night to work).
Do I have to go any further? Hee Hee

OK i'll bite, having never been around those bikes, why could it not keep up?
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Last week end I participated in the annual poker run to benfit our fire department.  Out of 100 bikes, there were two wings, one cb400, one BMW K100, and my Hondamatic.  The rest were HD's and their cousins Victory and Indian.  Most of the riders were less than friendly.  I didn't sit and drink in the bars where we drew cards, I just drew my card and got back on the bike.  Leaving almost last at the start, I jumped ahead at the first stop.  I was the first rider back by quite a margin, and I was sober.

If it wasn't for supporting the local community, I would not bother riding in this.  It was my third year.

I actually looked at  new Vrod last week, thinking it might make a good sport touring bike, but after this, I'm not sure I want anything from Milwakee other than beer.

I think all you Honda guys are missing the point.
Harley's aren't purchased for their competative performance value.

But, I have heard they have a vibration only a woman can truely apreciate. ;D

Perhaps they are a valuable tool in the mating ritual? :-X  :-*

I'm happy to ride with any of them.  But, if the pipes are too loud, I gotta be out front.  I don't want to pay for the experience with early deafness. R&R has taken too much of it already.

I think the problem is the people. See some want to ride just because so they get what they like and thats it. They do not mind other bikes.

Others want to have a certain image, these are the people who go to a bike show in their truck then unload their bike or go in their truck then put on chaps once there so they can LOOK like they rode.
These are also the people that blame some problem with the bike since obviously they are expert riders. I think the reason Harley gets this rap is cause that is the bike of choice for this group of people. Their other choice is a crotch rocket if they are under 25 or so.

I agree.  I have nothing against Harleys.  They are nice looking bikes.  It's the people (yuppies) who ride them, who have more invested in their riding wardrobe than I have in my bike, who wear fake ponytails, who have the barbed wire tattos around their arms, who, before they watched Discovery Channel and saw American Chopper, rode around in their SUVs and mini-vans, who tell me my Honda isn't a real bike, etc, etc, etc.
I'll stop ranting now.

what is the difference between a person who rides a Harley and one who rides an Indian?

The one who rides the Indian can read.

Indians are far cooler bikes than Harleys...in my opinoin.

I forgot to mention that this bloke is a "born again" rider. Off the road for thirty years, kids are gone so he spends $A30,000 on a toy.
He got a bit irate when a few people started comparing his brand new Harley name riding gear to what is seen in the Sydney Gay Mardi Gras.
By the way, I've got nothing against Harleys having put a lot of miles on a Fatboy years ago, I just prefer a bike I can work on, have fun on, is reliable & is not like as a...hole (everyone has one.
By the way, I know now why they're called "softails" - get behind one in a good corner & watch it wriggle.
Yoy made a good point about the mating ritual Lloyd.
I met my wife when I picked her up on the Fatboy. Enough said!
(she did look funny sitting on the numberplate "FAT00" though.

I have to think that the main reason people these days buy Harleys is so they can be impressed with themseves.

This will probably go on forever, but it's starting to get a little old for me.    Harleys are like guns (if I may tie 2 threads together); they're both tools. What is done with them depends on the owner.

dpen, that guy probably went home and told his wife, "Some Jap riding a55hole acted friendly to get me to go on a ride and then just took off. A Harley rider would never be such a jerk."

My brother bought a plate for his wife Tammy's 69 beetle it said    "69 TAM"   She ask him why people kept sticking there tongues out at her?  LOL  that still makes me laugh 30 years later.

What's the difference between a Harley and a vacuum cleaner?

The dirtbag is on the inside of a vacuum cleaner.

Sorry. I just heard this one today.

"...different these days....stuck up bad!!!"

Sorry, but so are Jap folks. In fact, I end up talking more to Harley guys than to Jap riders at gas stations. When I pull up on ANY of my bikes, the HD guys will stop to come over and talk because I'm riding something different. When I pull up to a pump when Jap riders are standing around in their candyass colour-matched leathers (and very loud after market pipes stuffed under the seat), I could freeze to death. Even while knowing that I know that they have no clue as to how pretentious and lacking in real skill most of them are.

Ernie, who is getting depressed because he wonders what sort of insecurities people have that causes them to pitch-a-#$%* about some group of people or other who they obviously don't even know or want to because it makes them feel better to put someone else down.

PS; A drunk once stopped me in my tracks by telling me that there's a fine line between love and hate. If you hate someone without really knowing/understanding them, it's projection. You see something in them that reminds you of something you hate about yourself.  :o

Thanks for letting me know about the Harley guys, I didn't realise that all Harley riders were wankers.
although ................I'd rather be a wanker than a #$%*.
