Neat looking bobber Yamaha YDS3
« on: May 02, 2008, 03:19:02 PM »
I posted the link to this in the for sale page. It doesn't belong to me but I thought it was cool. HD moped tank and a Ford emblem on the side engine cover.

For some reason I really like it but don't know why :)

Guess I can see myself cruising around with a double megaphone exhaust.

Makes me kinda sad to see a bike that used to be (and could have been again) a pretty strong runner back in it's time. :-\ A 2 stroke needs a tuned exhaust with a certain amount of back pressure,   to perform properly. To each his own (and I'm not knocking anyone's taste, but I'd never have bobbed or chopped one of those. Cafe'd maybe. ;) I remember when those bikes would blow the wheels off of the 650 British Twins. :D

I'm with you on this one Bill, a waste of a good donor bike for classic restoring, and yes the exhaust looks like a problem, poor performance at best, seized engine at worst.

You all are not going to believe this. :o While I was looking for a decent picture of a 67' Yamaha YDS3 250cc Catalina, I accidentally ran across this place and found the exact same bike that's on the Craig'slist. ::)

wow, that thing is 15 minutes from me.
tempting, but I do see the exhaust as a potential hornets nest of problems.

Another thing I didn't mention is he has taken the 'Autolube' tank off which means he would run it petroil, not sure how 'Autolube' system worked but it may cause problems with the crankshaft.

Yeah, you just don't need to start taking things off without knowing what kind of effect it could have on the bike.
