Wrong carbs, which throttle cables to get?
« on: May 02, 2008, 03:52:20 PM »
Alright, I have a small issue and somewhere here can probably shed some light on for me.  I have a 78 cb750 with only one pull throttle cable on it right now.  It shouldn't be terribly hard to add back the push cable, but I believe that it doesn't have the original carbs.  I believe that the carbs on my bike are not for a 78, but are older carbs (more intelligent people brought this to light for me).  Since it has the older carbs I think I should get the cables that go with the earlier bikes, but I'm not sure.  Can anyone offer their expertise here?

PS  I've attached a picture of the carbs so you guys can help identify.

While we're at it, does anyone have a really cheap (or local to Grand Rapids, MI) place to get these, or will looking through the normal sources be my route?

z1enterprises.com,   Order cables for a '74 CB750 and you should be all set, though I believe they are all the same on the ends, just different lengths maybe.

The carbs look pre-77 to me.  The carb-to-head boots are pre-77 as well.  The 77/78 boots are shorter because the 77/78 carbs are "deeper".  One of the other differences between 77/78 and prior are that the 77/78 carbs have accelerator pumps.  Earlier ones do not.  hmmmmm, let's start a rumor - they're "sandcast" carbs  ;D ;D ;D ;D
