Have any one of you had moments like this?....
« on: May 05, 2008, 06:32:47 PM »
Where you are out on your bike and even though everything seems normal..your body going through the motions of controlling the bike as usual..but you still seem to feel not quite into it mentally? As if something is wrong but you cant pin your finger onto as to what it is? Reason i ask this is because this is something that has been occuring the past few times i have been out on the Interceptor. Im just hoping it isnt a sign its time for me to hang up the helmet..

It has happened to me before. Several times, but I don't remember it happening consecutive rides. I learned many years ago that if it doesn't feel right then I just need to park it. I like to go too fast to not be comfortable.
Hang in there Dark Rider. The symptoms are only temporary.  :)

I was considering that....this all started just after my roommates harley caught fire. The interceptor was worked on at the same shop and ever since it came out i have been feeling like my bike has been violated. Those feelings got worse after the fire and me finding out there was failing parts on the Interceptor as well...Such as a chain that came loose a lot sooner then it should have. There were only two times that chain was even touched in my ownership of the bike..once in june of last year when i tightened it and when the rear wheel was changed..i put on almost 3 months of riding on the chain since my adjustment before the tire change..now the bike only had about a month of solid riding since the change and the chain is already loose? So now im convinced im going to do a lot more work on the machine myself. only reason it was in the shop in the first place was because it was major work i didnt have tools for. And thats the only way any of my bikes will be in the shop after i get my own workshop sorted out..

Happens often enough to me. I'm riding along and something just doesn't feel right about how the bike is running or handling. Can't really put my finger on it, but I just don't feel the same in the saddle. Visions of catastrophic failure and sudden course change enter my mind. It's then that I do a mental checklist of the bike and fortunately I am very close to the idiot who wrenches on my bike and know every bolt that's been turned. Sometimes it is something minor that gets noticed because I'm paying such close attention. Often it is grooves in the pavement or gusting wind and I'm too worried about mechanical failure to notice the obvious.

Stick with it DarkRider. Enjoy your ride. If you're zooming along without a care in the world, THEN I'd be worried :)

Sounds like bad juju.  I'm getting the same feeling working on my bike, just that all is not necessarily right with the world. What can go wrong with my bike *has* been.  Even bikes parked *near* mine start going to hell.   ??? :-X

Any suggestions on getting rid of a gremlin infestation would be welcome here, too

New chains have a bit of stretch to them...

They seem to settle in after the first ajustment.

If you haven't replaced your chain...perhaps its telling its time?

Thats possable..this chain could quite possably be the original part...Im looking into doing a 520 chain conversion when i change it out to save a bit of weight and reduce the added friction of the larger 530.

Shoot.  I have whole days like that without being on a bike.

Also, I've noticed that once one bad thing happens, it throws you off your game and more follow.  I had that happen just the other day.  Bike 1 wanted to run on 2 cylinders for some reason, so tried a couple of quick troubleshooting measures, then switched to bike 2.  Proceeded to get pulled over after that for 62 in a 45.  Got stuck in an unfavorable traffic position for an extended period.  My cracked clutch perch finally gave and broke off, so I had to shift with no clutch for the rest of the day.  -I knew there was some reason I wanted to ride bike 1, but couldn't recall until after I was riding bike 2.

It's all an adventure.  Through all that, my blood pressure and heart rate wasn't even bothered.  The most irritating part was being stuck behind that slow poke and not being able to pass safely.  I guess I'm getting seasoned to the stresses of life.  I remember when being pulled over would shake me up.  And I've had enough mechanical failures in various vehicles that when the clutch lever dropped and hung down by the petcock, I just lifted it back to where it should be, held it there and matched my rpm to my trans and shifted, slowed down to a crawl for stop signs and timed the lights for green.

Watch your diet.  The food you eat can effect your thought process.  If you're feeling stressed, do something mindless and let your mind drift to sorting out your stress(meditation of sorts).

Later on today we are going to be switching the front tire on the bike to see if that has something to do with it..there was a bit a speed wobble on it before so theres a chance that could be part of the issue..it means i wind up with mismatched rotors for a bit but not a major issue lol..chances are i will be ordering some new rotors soon anyways..
