I'm not sure if it's 40 degrees but it's definitely the same as the three later sandcast ones.  I put one of the later ones on the crank and lined up the 1-4 T mark with the mark on the cases.  Then after I cleaned up just enough to see the same marks on the E100 advancer l put it on the crank and the T mark lined up exactly.
The T mark is for Top Dead Center, so it should always be the same. Set the mark for the full advance marks, then see if 100 matches.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Mark, I think you need to check the angle between the 'T' and the total advance marks to really answer the question. The 'T' marks, TDC, should line up no matter what version. It is the total degrees of timing advance that may determine the version.

Sorry Scottly, I was typing while you were posting.

I soaked the advancer in Safest Rust Remover and I was able to clean it up enough to read the markings.  Besides the timing marks there is a TEC logo on one side…

….and a 300 with an arrow on the other side.

So it’s definitely not a 450 advancer.  I looked in parts manuals and this shape with the slots shows up in the 1975 and later K and F models.  I also looked in early parts manuals and shop manuals and they have the same shape as my later sandcast ones.  I don’t think mine is original.  Any other opinions?

Yep, the early advancers are Hitachi.

The "slotted" ones you see in the parts fiche are the -323- series advancers (most made by TEC). They are a larger round-ish baseplate than these, too. The -323- have a different static timing and advance angle (and rate) from the early engines, being made to operate with late-opening intake cams (0 BTC).

The "300" definitely puts them into the pre-1975 engine. The advancers were made by 3 companies at different times, mixed back and forth between New Factory and Old Factory, with the bulk of pre-1972 versions made by Hitachi. This logo looks like 2 concentric circles with a sort of "H" in their midst. The TEC is distinct, and the ND shows up, usually in K1 bikes, pretty often.

The curious part here (to me) is the slots behind the springs. This makes it look like it started out as a 450 twin advancer plate, which may be how it came to be? Those were largely TEC-made. The sandcasts sported many parts that came from the Big Twin. If the bolster in the center were then changed to fit the 750 shaft, that might be their origin?

Cool stuff!

The advance from my K7 parts motor is a TEC, marked 300.
My K1 looks like it has the Hitachi logo, and is marked AD125-01.

Checked my 2 loose ones. My original 75 CB750F is a TEC as is my 78 CB750K. Couldn't get to the other on my spare 75 CB750F engine though so thats no help Keith.

Bill Benton has a #$%*load of spares. Maybe he can take a look Keith?

When you see one: the "T" and "F" marks are tiny, and are inside the arc of their timing marks. They were hard to see in a timing situation.

Hey, Bill, I can't quite tell: in your collection, do you have both the -323- with the "thick" wire springs and the one with the "thin" wire springs? It was said the "thick" ones were for the 500/550K, the "thin" ones for the "F" bikes. In practice, I couldn't confirm that, though?

Trivia, trivia... :(

We have Marks everywhere  ;D You AND Hondaman. Anyone else needs anything minor Markb and I would gladly add to our orders.

That NOS advancer looks nice. It's a 300. But, for ~$300.00 I think I'd just get new springs  ;)

Their site is kinda tricky. I've found it's best to click through on each part if you really want to see the whole picture.

Will do, not sure how quick I'll send it in. Next week or 2 MAYBE. I have numerous orders to do for the 1000 engine but still need to tear into the existing 900 A G A I N........but later.

ServiceHonda (seals, o-rings, gaskets, primaries). APE (top and bottom studs). Dynoman (RC315). Yamiya. Amazon (Tsubaki). KenoshaKid (swing arm bushings & bolt set). Then there's CB750Supply, CycleX, PartsNMore, ETC.

Do I go with Honda gaskets and seals or aftermarket?! Complete kit and have leftovers, etc?!

ETC ETC ETC  $$$$$$$$

Hey Bro, I'm not in a hurry at all. I just want them in case I need them, and then, if ordered separately, the shipping would exceed the cost of the part. ;)

Shipping, exactly. That's why I'm offering to add stuff to my order. I'll include them. May pull the trigger this week. I'll let you know. Only want to do one order due to that shipping monster. Trying to decide if I want to chance bearing sizes for the crank. $8.77 each and $6.24 for the rods. Going to use the Crowers on the 1000. Not sure about sizing and my pre-measuring skills and equipment leave a little to be desired. May order green and hope for the best. I can always farm them out.

Anyway, back to the advancer and spring thing. Anyone else want new springs or whatever from Yamiya?

PeWe,

I have a feeling that those 2 inexpensive springs are going to cost you a bunch. May as well fill up a box which is what I'm going to do WITHOUT the springs unless someone here in the States wants me to add some to my order also for them.

Jerry,

Will those springs work for my 1976 K6????
I still have the original springs in mine, but will be going through the engine soon to get it running again.

If they will work, I'd be interested.

IIRC I read somewhere that springs and weights on these are interchangeable, so they may work. I ordered a set a while back via JT but haven't installed them.

Hey, Jerry: I am about to finish up a K5 that the owner would like the 4-4 pipes from Yamiya (maybe). I'll ask: if so, I'll contact you about it and maybe we can do something about the shipping?
